Stop Pills That Kill Act

Stop Pills That Kill Act This bill increases criminal penalties for offenses relating to the manufacture of fentanyl or counterfeit substances. It also establishes requirements for federal agencies to address the use of counterfeit substances. Specifically, the bill applies an increased criminal penalty for possessing, manufacturing, or distributing certain equipment or materials that are used to illegally manufacture fentanyl, an analogue of fentanyl, or a counterfeit substance (the increased penalty is currently limited to offenses involving methamphetamine). The bill also requires the United States Sentencing Commission to review sentencing guidelines and amend them, if appropriate, to include an enhanced penalty for those who knowingly misrepresent counterfeit pills that have fentanyl, a fentanyl analogue, or methamphetamine as legitimate pills. The Drug Enforcement Administration must establish and implement a plan to address counterfeit fentanyl or methamphetamine substances through law enforcement action and education and prevention efforts. In addition, the Department of Justice must annually report on the collection of counterfeit fentanyl or methamphetamine substances by law enforcement and on related prosecutions.

For the relief of Ivana Alexandra Sifuentes Arbirio and Luisa Mariana Sifuentes Arbirio.

Maddy summaryThis bill grants permanent resident status (green cards) to two specific individuals, Ivana Alexandra Sifuentes Arbirio and Luisa Mariana Sifuentes Arbirio, by waiving standard immigration requirements. It allows them to apply for permanent residency without meeting typical eligibility rules, rescinds any prior removal orders against them, and requires their application to be filed within two years of the bill's enactment. The bill also reduces the number of available immigrant visas for their country of origin by two and prevents their family members from receiving preferential immigration treatment. This is a one-time exception for these two people, not a broad policy change.

An otherwise qualifying alien may not receive such protections if (1) the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) determines that the alien is directly responsible for harming U.S. national security, or (2) the alien is subject to extradition. For the relief of Michael Ragas Rey.

Maddy summaryThis bill (HR 7531) grants permanent resident status eligibility to a specific individual, Michael Ragas Rey, who faces immigration barriers. Latonya Reeves Freedom Act of 2022

Latonya Reeves Freedom Act of 2022 This bill prohibits government entities and insurance providers from denying community-based services to individuals with disabilities that require long-term service or support that would enable such individuals to live in the community and lead an independent life. Specifically, these entities may not discriminate against such individuals in the provision of community-based services by such actions as imposing prohibited eligibility criteria, cost caps, or waiting lists or failing to provide a specific community-based service. Additionally, community-based services must be offered to individuals with such disabilities prior to institutionalization. Institutionalized individuals must be notified regularly of community-based alternatives. The bill requires the Department of Justice to issue regulations requiring government entities and insurance providers to offer community-based long-term services to individuals with such disabilities who would otherwise qualify for institutional placement. Government entities must ensure sufficient availability of affordable, accessible, and integrated housing that is not a disability-specific residential setting or a setting where services are tied to tenancy. Regulations shall also (1) require government entities and insurance providers to perform self-evaluation on current services, policies, and practices and concerning compliance with requirements of this bill; and (2) require government entities to submit a transition plan. The bill provides funds for FY2022 for the Department of Health and Human Services to provide technical assistance with respect to transition plans. The bill allows civil actions by individuals subjected to, or about to be subjected to, a violation of its requirements.
