This measure would recognize the month of June 2017 as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, would recognize Wednesday, June 21, 2017, as The Longest Day in California, and would urge all Californians to wear purple on this day to help spread global awareness of the Alzheimer's Association's vision of a world without Alzheimer's disease.

This measure would state the intent of the Legislature to take the opportunity preceding July 4, 2017, to recognize and celebrate July 4, 2017, and the 241st anniversary of the birth of our great nation and the signing of the Declaration of Independence that this day represents.

This measure would recognize the month of August 2017 as Opportunity Youth Reengagement Month, and state the intent of the Legislature to encourage the expansion of schools authorized to specifically reengage "opportunity youth" 16 to 24 years of age by developing recommendations for a statewide student reengagement strategy and identifying the cost of the strategy compared to the cost of inaction; authorizing systems for accountability to students, parents, and families through transparency, active engagement, and outreach strategies; and highlighting, promoting, and uplifting evidence-based practices for successful student reengagement efforts that maintain multiple measures for evaluation of student success.

This measure would urge the President and the Congress of the United States to continue to place an emphasis on increasing funding to NASA's budget and encouraging the expansive use of public-private partnerships to propel the industry forward into the next generation of advancement.

Existing law authorizes certain nontraditional insurers, including religious organizations meeting specified criteria, to insure against specified risks. Existing law authorizes these associations to insure against a specified list of losses, including, but not limited to, vandalism or malicious mischief, vehicles owned or operated by the insured or by any tenant of the described premises, falling trees, burglary and theft, and mysterious disappearance. This bill would remove insuring vehicles owned or operated by the insured or by any tenant of the described premises from the list of insurable losses and would add insuring against liability to the list of insurable losses. Existing law prohibits an association from writing insurance in excess of $10,000 on any one risk or in excess of $60,000 in any one city block within an incorporated city without immediately reinsuring all the excess amount. Existing law authorizes an association to write insurance for an amount not exceeding $60,000 on any one risk if the excess over $10,000 is reinsured, as provided. An association is not authorized to accept reinsurance but may reinsure risks if that reinsurance is by contracts and with reinsurers that meet the prescribed standards. This bill would delete the above-described provisions.

This measure would designate a specified portion of State Highway Route 132 in the City of Modesto as the Modesto Police Officer Leo Volk, Jr., and Modesto Police Sergeant Steve May Memorial Highway. The measure would also request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs.

This measure would designate a specified portion of Interstate 680 in the City of San Ramon in the County of Contra Costa as the Detective Sergeant Thomas A. Smith, Jr. Memorial Highway. The measure would also request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, erect those signs.
