Relating to the use of water for fire response preparedness.

Maddy summaryHB 3128 exempts fire departments and communities from needing a water right permit to store surface water for emergency fire response. Specifically, it allows storing up to one acre-foot of water per reservoir or tank without a permit, directly affecting local fire agencies and public safety planning. The bill removes administrative barriers for pre-positioning water resources, ensuring quicker access during wildfires. This policy change applies to surface water storage specifically for fire response, not general water use. The exemption is limited to emergency preparedness, not routine operations.
