RELATING TO GRANDPARENTS.

Allows the family court to award a grandparent, upon petition to the court, custody rights to a minor child, and establishes criteria to obtain such custody. Adds criteria regarding the award by the family court of grandparent visitation rights to a minor child. (HB435 HD1)

RELATING TO REMOTE SALES OF CIGARETTES AND TOBACCO PRODUCTS.

Prohibits the remote sale and distribution of cigarettes and tobacco products, including electronic smoking devices, to any person in the State other than a licensed wholesaler or dealer or a permit-holding tobacco product retailer. Makes violation of the prohibition a class C felony. (HB1495 HD1)

RELATING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

Streamlines the reporting requirements of the Department of Human Services (DHS)and the family courts to require DHS, upon direction of the court, to provide the family court with an oral or written report regarding the safety of a minor child of the parties on or prior to the next regularly scheduled court hearing. Provides that if DHS provides a written report, the DHS need not appear at the hearing unless ordered to do so. Requires the court to provide copies of all written reports to the parties.
