This measure would designate the month of April 2012 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, would recognize April 25, 2012, as Denim Day California, and would encourage everyone to wear jeans on that day to help communicate the message that there is no excuse for, and never an invitation to commit, rape.
This measure would declare May 23, 2012, as the 24th Annual State Scientist Day, as a tribute to the dedication and professionalism of the state scientists who work on behalf of all the residents of California.
Existing law requires that, on and after January 1, 2008, the minimum wage for all industries be not less than $8.00 per hour. This bill would provide for an adjustment to the hourly minimum wage on January 1, 2013, and annually thereafter, to maintain employee purchasing power. The automatically adjusted minimum wage would be calculated using the California Consumer Price Index, as specified. The bill would prohibit the Industrial Welfare Commission from adjusting the minimum wage downward and from adjusting the minimum wage upward if the average percentage of inflation for the previous year, as defined, was negative. The bill would require the Industrial Welfare Commission to publicize the automatically adjusted minimum wage. This bill would provide that the commission may increase the minimum wage in an amount greater than the formula would provide.
Existing law establishes the California State University under the administration of the Trustees of the California State University, and the University of California under the administration of the Regents of the University of California, as 2 of the segments of public postsecondary education in the state. This bill would prohibit the trustees from entering into or renewing, and would request the regents not to enter into or renew, a contract that provides for a compensation increase, as defined, for an administrator, as defined, using state moneys or moneys from tuition or fees in a fiscal year in which the amount of General Fund moneys appropriated to the respective segment in the annual Budget Act for the current fiscal year is less than the amount of moneys appropriated to that segment in the annual Budget Act for the immediately preceding fiscal year, or if mandatory systemwide resident tuition or fees have been increased in the same fiscal year. This bill would prohibit the trustees from increasing, and would request the regents not to increase, the compensation of an administrator by more than 10% relative to the immediately preceding compensation for that position. Subsequent to this increase, the bill would require, and request, that compensation to only be increased annually by the percentage of inflation, as specified.
This measure would designate May 2012 as Foster Care Month in California.
This measure would designate the week of April 15 to 21, 2012, as "National Multicultural Cancer Awareness Week," and would encourage the promotion of policies and programs that seek to reduce cancer disparities and improve cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and followup care for all Californians.
This measure would designate the second full week in April as California Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
This measure would proclaim May 6, 2012, to May 12, 2012, inclusive, to be California Charter Schools Week, and would state that the Legislature joins the California Charter Schools Association in congratulating charter schools for the accomplishments and contributions they have made to public education.
This measure would designate April 18, 2012, as DMV/Donate Life California Day in the State of California, and April 2012 as DMV/Donate Life California Month in the State of California, and would encourage all Californians to be organ, tissue, and blood donors.
This measure would designate February 2012 as No Place for Hate (registered trademark) Month.
