This measure would designate Sunday, June 7, 2015, as California Cancer Survivors Day, to coincide with National Cancer Survivors Day.
This measure would urge the President and the Congress of the United States to craft a balanced and workable approach to reduce incentives for and minimize unnecessary patent litigation while ensuring that legitimate patent enforcement rights are protected and maintained.
This measure would recognize June 2015 as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, and June 21, 2015, as The Longest Day in California, and would urge all residents to wear purple on this day to help spread global awareness of the Alzheimer's Association's vision of imagining a world without Alzheimer's disease.
This measure would request the Congress of the United States of America to further amend the GI Bill of Rights to make benefits available to veterans for use as startup capital in the establishment of first businesses.
This measure would proclaim June 2015 as California-Grown Flower Month to recognize and honor the men and women of the California-grown flower industry for their dedication and productivity.
Existing law establishes procedures and requirements to govern the allocation to, and expenditure by, local health jurisdictions, hospitals, long-term health care facilities, clinics, emergency medical systems, and poison control centers of federal funding received for the prevention of, and response to, public health emergencies. Existing law provides that these procedures apply only when the specified entities are designated by a federal or state agency to manage the funds for public health preparedness and response to public health emergencies, pursuant to a specified federally approved plan. This bill would expand these provisions to apply to public health emergency preparedness and response by trade associations of those entities or facilities. This bill would declare that it is to take effect immediately as an urgency statute.
Existing law establishes the Sierra Nevada Conservancy in the Natural Resources Agency, and prescribes the membership and functions and duties of the conservancy. Existing law requires that the governing board of the conservancy consist of 13 voting members and 3 nonvoting liaison advisers, appointed or designated in accordance with specified procedures. This bill would require that 2 members of the Senate, appointed by the Senate Committee on Rules, and 2 members of the Assembly, appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly, meet with the conservancy and participate in its activities to the extent that such participation is not incompatible with their positions as Members of the Legislature.
Existing law, the Alfred E. Alquist Hospital Facilities Seismic Safety Act of 1983, establishes, under the jurisdiction of the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, a program of seismic safety building standards for certain hospitals constructed on and after March 7, 1973. Existing law provides that, after January 1, 2008, a general acute care hospital building that is determined to be a potential risk of collapse or to pose significant loss of life in the event of seismic activity be used only for nonacute care hospital purposes, except that the office may grant a 5-year extension under prescribed circumstances. Existing law also allows the office to grant an additional 2-year extension in specified circumstances. This bill would authorize a hospital located in the City of Willits that has received the additional 2-year extension to the January 2008 deadline pursuant to specified provisions to request an additional extension until September 1, 2015, to obtain either a certificate of occupancy for a replacement building or a construction final for a building on which a retrofit has been performed. This bill would make legislative findings and declarations as to the necessity of a special statute for the City of Willits. This bill would declare that it is to take effect immediately as an urgency statute.
