Provides that two (2) or more individuals associated to accomplish an act or acts which constitute shoplifting, could be deemed "racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations."
Changes the community service requirements of a sentence related to the violation of § 11-44-21.1 relating to defacing private residences, offices, businesses or commercial property.
Increases the penalties for public utilities for violations of the general law governing the duties of utilities and carriers.
Repeals the provision that requires new applicants for employment under this section to pay the expense for their background checks.
Prohibits the civil arrest of any person who is attending court either on behalf of themselves or a family or household member. Any person who violates this act shall be subject to civil suit and for contempt of court.
Requires that any person convicted of a charge of DUI or refusal, have an ignition interlock before being eligible for license reinstatement. Also permits a first-time offender to have charges dismissed.
Allows retired sheriffs and other retired law enforcement personnel to be recalled into service as a sheriff or deputy sheriff without any reduction in their pension benefit.
Extends the "lookback" period for repeat offenses involving driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs under § 31-27-2 and for repeat offenses related to failure or refusal to submit to chemical tests under § 31-27-2.1 from 5 years to 10 years.
A judge would have discretion to allow a hardship exception to keep license plates of a person convicted of this offense.
Requires that the license plates of a vehicle be confiscated by a police officer if the owner was arrested for driving while their license was suspended, revoked or cancelled for refusing to submit to a chemical test or for operating under the influence.
