An Act amending the act of May 17, 1921 (P.L.682, No.284), known as The Insurance Company Law of 1921, in casualty insurance, providing for coverage for interprofessional consultation.

Maddy summaryThis Pennsylvania bill requires health insurance policies to cover a specific type of remote medical service known as interprofessional consultation, where a specialist provides advice to a patient's primary doctor without seeing the patient in person. To qualify for this coverage, the consultation must be conducted using technology that meets federal privacy standards and must adhere to established medical care standards. The law applies to various standard health plans but excludes limited policies such as dental-only, vision-only, or accident insurance, and it allows insurers to apply standard deductibles and copayments to these services.

An Act amending the act of May 17, 1921 (P.L.682, No.284), known as The Insurance Company Law of 1921, providing for homeowner's insurance issuance, renewal, cancellation and refusal; and imposing a penalty.

Maddy summaryThis bill amends Pennsylvania's Insurance Company Law to establish specific rules for issuing, renewing, and canceling homeowner's insurance policies. It prohibits insurers from denying coverage or canceling policies based on personal characteristics such as age, race, or residence, as well as from canceling due to two or fewer claims within a three-year period. The legislation also requires insurers to provide clear written notices before canceling a policy and mandates that premium increases be broken down to show exactly how much is added due to claims or other factors. Additionally, the bill sets guidelines for what happens when an insurance agent is terminated, ensuring that existing policies written by that agent are not unfairly affected and that customers are offered coverage options.
