Bereaved Parents Rights Act

Maddy summaryThe Bereaved Parents Rights Act requires hospitals and birth centers to notify parents of miscarriages or stillbirths about their options for burial, cremation, or hospital disposal. This notification must occur within six hours of the event or the parent's discharge, using a standardized form provided by the government. If parents choose burial or cremation within 72 hours, the facility must follow the same state laws that apply to other fetal deaths. The bill also allows parents to sue in federal court if these notification requirements are not met.

Dismemberment Abortion Ban Act of 2026

Maddy summaryHR 8603, the Dismemberment Abortion Ban Act of 2026, prohibits physicians from performing abortions that involve dismembering an unborn child and extracting it piece by piece or crushed from the uterus. The law allows exceptions only when the procedure is necessary to save the mother's life, while explicitly permitting other abortion methods for reasons such as rape or incest. It imposes criminal penalties of up to two years in prison or fines on physicians who violate the ban and creates a civil lawsuit system where women or parents of minors can seek monetary damages and attorney fees against providers. The bill also defines an 'unborn child' as a human organism from fertilization until birth and clarifies that the woman undergoing the procedure cannot be prosecuted or held financially liable.

Equal Treatment for Farmers Act

Maddy summaryThe Equal Treatment for Farmers Act removes references to 'socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers' from multiple federal agricultural laws and programs. This bill amends various statutes including the Federal Crop Insurance Act, Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act, and other agricultural legislation to eliminate special preferences or categories based on social disadvantage status. The legislation also prohibits the USDA from providing any preference, priority consideration, or enhanced benefits based on race or gender in its programs. These changes affect how federal agricultural assistance, loans, and benefits are categorized and distributed to farmers and ranchers.

Expanding Private Airport Security Screening Act

Maddy summaryThis bill allows airport operators to contract with private companies to perform passenger and property security screening instead of relying solely on federal employees. To qualify, private companies must meet strict standards including employing only vetted staff, demonstrating equal capability to federal personnel, and being owned and controlled by U.S. citizens. The Transportation Security Administration would maintain a public list of approved companies, provide federal supervisors and law enforcement at airports using private screening, and conduct covert testing to ensure performance standards are met. The legislation also requires annual reports comparing the performance and costs of private screening against federal operations, and includes provisions to limit airport operator liability for damages caused by negligence or wrongdoing by private screening companies and their employees.

Enhanced Iran Sanctions Act of 2025

Enhanced Iran Sanctions Act of 2025 This bill imposes sanctions on certain foreign persons (individuals and entities) that are involved in Iran's petroleum sector as well as certain associated persons. The bill also requires or authorizes actions to facilitate the enforcement of sanctions on Iran. Specifically, the bill requires the President to impose visa- and property-blocking sanctions on any foreign person that, after the bill's enactment, knowingly engages in any transaction related to the processing, export, or sale of oil, condensates, gas, liquefied natural gas, or other petrochemical products in whole or in part from Iran. The President must also impose sanctions on certain foreign persons associated with a sanctioned individual or entity. For example, the President must sanction the subsidiaries and corporate officers of a sanctioned business. The bill provides certain exceptions to these sanctions, including specifying that sanctions do not apply to the importation of goods or to conducting or facilitating transactions for humanitarian assistance. The Department of State must establish an interagency working group that shall seek to establish a multilateral contact group to coordinate international efforts to enforce sanctions on Iran. The bill expands the State Department rewards program to authorize a reward payment to any individual who furnishes information leading to the identification of a person (1) subject to sanctions under this bill, or (2) that has attempted or is attempting to evade sanctions under this bill.

Maddy summaryThis bill, titled the No Federal Tax Dollars for Illegal Aliens Health Insurance Act of 2026, amends the Affordable Care Act to restrict the use of federal taxpayer funds for health insurance coverage. It directly affects states that receive funding under the ACA and individuals seeking health insurance coverage through federal programs. The key provision prohibits states from using pass-through funding to pay for health insurance or related benefits for individuals who are not U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawfully present aliens. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to rescind any existing waivers that would have allowed such funding for unauthorized individuals had the new restrictions been in place at the time of approval.

Maddy summaryThis bill would allow the U.S. Foreign Claims Settlement Commission to review and process compensation claims from American citizens and businesses against the Government of Honduras for property that was taken or expropriated. The bill sets a specific deadline for filing claims, requiring submissions within 60 days of the law's enactment.
