Dental Care for Veterans Act

Dental Care for Veterans Act This bill expands eligibility for veterans for dental care provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Specifically, the bill makes all veterans who are enrolled in the VA health care system eligible for VA-provided dental services. Currently, only veterans who have a service-connected dental issue or meet other narrow criteria are eligible for certain dental services. The bill phases in eligibility over four years based upon existing eligibility, degree of service-connected disability or other disability, prisoner of war status, award of a Purple Heart, financial need, or VA health care eligibility.

Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that over 25 years of real-world evidence and hundreds of peer-reviewed studies proving that mifepristone is safe and effective should be respected, and law and policy governing access to lifesaving, time-sensitive medication abortion care in the United States should be equitable, transparent, and based on the best available peer-reviewed evidence-based science.

Maddy summaryThis non-binding resolution expresses the House of Representatives' view that the FDA should regulate mifepristone, a medication used for abortion, based on scientific evidence rather than political pressure. It highlights over 25 years of data showing the drug is safe and effective when prescribed via telemedicine or dispensed by mail and pharmacy. The bill advocates for policies that ensure equitable access to this care, particularly for marginalized communities facing barriers due to state-level restrictions. By citing numerous studies and medical organizations, the resolution calls for transparent, science-based decisions to maintain current access methods.

Protecting Our Democracy Act

Maddy summaryThe Protecting Our Democracy Act is a comprehensive legislative bill designed to prevent abuses of presidential power, restore checks and balances, and defend elections against foreign interference. Key provisions include prohibiting the President from granting self-pardons, requiring congressional oversight for pardons involving the President or their family, and banning the President from accepting payments from individuals who have received clemency. The bill also strengthens enforcement of the Hatch Act and ethics rules for political appointees, mandates greater transparency in presidential tax returns and campaign finances, and restricts the use of federal property for political conventions. Additionally, it expands reporting requirements for foreign contacts in federal campaigns and imposes stricter penalties for violations of election laws.

Blast Overpressure Research and Mitigation Task Force Act

Maddy summaryHR 6444 establishes a VA-DoD task force to improve care for veterans and active-duty service members diagnosed with blast-related injuries like traumatic brain injury (TBI) or PTSD. The task force will coordinate research on specific issues (e.g., sleep therapy, gut health, brain inflammation), develop clinical baselines, and create guidelines for evaluating disability claims related to blast exposure. It must report annually to Congress on research progress and claim evaluation recommendations, and will expire on September 30, 2029. The bill directly affects veterans and service members with blast exposure symptoms by focusing research and care coordination on their specific health needs.

Recycling and Composting Accountability Act

Maddy summaryHR 4109, the Recycling and Composting Accountability Act, requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to collect and report detailed data on recycling and composting infrastructure across the U.S. The bill mandates reports on composting facilities, materials recovery centers (which process recyclable materials like plastic, paper, and metal), contamination rates, and barriers to expanding these programs. It also directs the EPA to develop standardized recycling rates, track end-market sales of recycled materials, and assess how much recyclable material is diverted from reuse. These reports will be submitted to Congress and used by states, local governments, and tribes to improve recycling access, reduce waste, and inform future policy decisions.

Affirming the alliance between the United States and the Republic of Korea.

Maddy summaryHRES 64 is a non-binding House resolution affirming the U.S.-South Korea alliance. It highlights historical ties (dating to 1882), economic partnerships (including 2023 trade data), and security cooperation (like the 1953 Mutual Defense Treaty), while celebrating Korean American contributions to U.S. society. It does not create new laws or funding, but serves as a symbolic statement of congressional support for the alliance.

SMART Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 4437, the SMART Act of 2025, simplifies regulatory examinations for smaller, well-managed banks and credit unions. It applies to institutions with $6 billion or less in assets that meet "well capitalized" and "well managed" criteria (based on recent exam results). The bill requires federal banking agencies to offer alternating limited-scope examinations after a full exam and allows combining separate safety, compliance, and cybersecurity exams into one when requested. Exceptions apply for institutions under enforcement actions or after recent ownership changes. The law aims to reduce regulatory burden while maintaining oversight, requiring agencies to issue implementing rules within 12 months.

Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection relating to the withdrawal of the rule relating to "Fair Credit Reporting; Name-Only Matching Procedures".

Maddy summaryThis bill instructs Congress to reject a specific rule issued by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection that sought to cancel an earlier regulation on how credit reporting agencies match names. By disapproving this withdrawal, the legislation effectively keeps the original "Name-Only Matching Procedures" rule in place, requiring agencies to continue using those specific methods for verifying consumer identities. The measure directly impacts credit reporting companies and financial institutions that rely on these identity verification standards. If passed, the rule attempting to change the matching process will have no legal effect, maintaining the status quo for name-based identity checks.

No Funds for Iran War Act

Maddy summaryThis bill prohibits the U.S. government from spending money on military actions against Iran between its enactment and December 31, 2026, unless Congress explicitly approves the use of force. It allows for military action only if Congress declares war, passes a specific authorization, or if the action is necessary to defend the United States or its allies from an imminent attack while following reporting requirements. The law directly restricts the President's ability to deploy troops without legislative approval during the specified timeframe.
