Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Fania Records

Maddy summaryThis Senate Resolution commemorates the 60th anniversary of Fania Records, a historic New York-based label founded in 1964 that pioneered salsa music and launched the careers of many Latin music legends. The bill formally recognizes the label's cultural impact and its role in telling the story of American immigration through music, noting that three of its recordings are already listed in the National Recording Registry. It directs the state legislature to pause its proceedings to honor the label's members and resolves to send a copy of the resolution to Fania Records.

Requires rear occupant alert systems in certain vehicles

Maddy summaryThis bill would require new passenger vehicles sold in New York to include a rear occupant alert system, which notifies drivers to check the back seats after turning off the engine. The rule applies to cars and trucks under 10,000 pounds manufactured or assembled one year after federal safety standards for these systems are finalized. If federal authorities determine that this requirement makes New York ineligible for federal funding or non-compliant with federal law, the bill would be repealed.

Establishes a dementia and Alzheimer's disease program database

Maddy summaryThis bill creates a database to list programs that successfully help older adults with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. The state health office and the department of health will work together to find these programs, decide what makes them successful, and update the list at least once a year. Once compiled, the database will be posted online so the public can easily find contact details, program names, descriptions, and locations. The law will take effect one year after it is signed into legislation.
