Aviation Workforce Development Act

Maddy summaryHR 1818, the Aviation Workforce Development Act, expands tax-advantaged 529 college savings plans to cover costs for aviation maintenance and commercial pilot training. It allows families to use 529 funds for tuition, fees, books, and equipment at qualifying schools - specifically aviation maintenance technician programs under FAA Part 147 rules or commercial pilot courses at FAA-certified flight schools (Part 61 or Part 141). The bill directly affects students pursuing these aviation careers by making their training more affordable through existing tax-advantaged savings accounts. The change applies to distributions made after the law's enactment date.

Maintaining Investments in New Innovation Act

Maddy summaryThis bill extends the exclusivity period for certain advanced drugs from 7 to 11 years. It defines "advanced drug product" as a drug using genetically targeted technology to modulate gene function (e.g., suppress or activate genes). This change directly affects pharmaceutical companies developing these specific advanced therapies by granting them longer market exclusivity. The policy change modifies the Social Security Act to provide extended protection for these innovative drugs, allowing companies more time to recoup research and development costs.

Early Action and Responsiveness Lifts Youth Minds Act

Maddy summaryThis bill amends federal mental health law to allow states to use up to 5% of their existing mental health funding for early intervention programs targeting children and adolescents. It requires states to include evidence-based prevention strategies in their plans - such as school-based support or community programs - to delay or reduce the severity of mental health issues before they become serious. States must report biennially to Congress on program details, demographics served (including age), and outcomes like reduced wait times for care. The law directly affects states receiving federal mental health funds and focuses on preventing escalation of mental health challenges in young people.

To nullify the final rule issued by the Environmental Protection Agency relating to "New Source Performance Standards for Greenhouse Gas Emissions From New, Modified, and Reconstructed Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Units; Emission Guidelines for Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Existing Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Units; and Repeal of the Affordable Clean Energy Rule".

Maddy summaryHR 1651 would nullify a specific Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule finalized on May 9, 2024. This rule established emissions standards for greenhouse gases from new, modified, and reconstructed fossil fuel power plants, set guidelines for existing plants, and repealed the previous "Affordable Clean Energy Rule." The bill would make this EPA rule unenforceable, directly affecting fossil fuel power plants by removing these federal emissions requirements. It does not create new regulations but cancels an existing EPA rule.

It does not create new laws but affirms U.S. policy alignment with Iranian protesters' demands.

761st Tank Battalion Congressional Gold Medal Act

Maddy summaryThis bill awards a Congressional Gold Medal to the 761st Tank Battalion (known as the "Black Panthers"), the first predominantly Black armored unit in World War II's European Theater. It recognizes their combat service from 1944-1946, including key roles in the Battle of the Bulge and breaking the Siegfried Line, despite facing racial prejudice during and after the war. The medal will be displayed at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, with bronze duplicates available for sale to cover costs. The bill commemorates the battalion's 130,000 enemy casualties inflicted, 50% casualty rate, and their 1978 Presidential Unit Citation. It does not create new laws or affect current policies.

To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to expand practitioners eligible to furnish telehealth services under the Medicare program.

Maddy summaryHR 1614 would amend Section 1834(m)(4)(E) of the Social Security Act to expand which healthcare providers can offer telehealth services to Medicare beneficiaries. The bill directly affects Medicare patients and current healthcare providers (like nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and clinical psychologists) who are currently excluded from providing telehealth under Medicare. The key change is modifying the legal language to explicitly include these additional providers in the list of eligible telehealth furnishers. This policy change would allow more Medicare beneficiaries to access telehealth services from a broader range of qualified healthcare professionals.

Protect and Serve Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 1551, the Protect and Serve Act of 2025, creates a new federal criminal offense for intentionally harming law enforcement officers under specific circumstances. It imposes harsher penalties, including up to 10 years in prison for serious injury or life imprisonment if death occurs, kidnapping is involved, or a firearm is used. The law applies when the crime crosses state lines, involves interstate weapons, occurs on federal property, or targets federal officers. Prosecutions require the Attorney General’s written certification, considering factors like prior state convictions and public safety impact. The bill directly affects law enforcement officers and federal prosecutors by expanding federal jurisdiction for certain violent crimes against them.

Broadband Buildout Accountability Act

Maddy summaryHR 1579, the Broadband Buildout Accountability Act, would exempt the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program from Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. This means federal agencies administering the program - funded under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act - would not have to disclose documents like grant applications or project details to the public through FOIA. The bill amends Section 60102(o)(2) of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to add this exemption. It directly affects transparency around federal broadband funding by limiting public access to program-related information.
