Maddy summaryThis bill amends a provision of the 2023 federal law governing SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) to ensure victims of EBT skimming receive full replacement of stolen benefits. It requires that replaced benefits equal the exact amount stolen from a household, directly affecting SNAP recipients who have been victims of benefit theft. The key change replaces the previous wording to specify the replacement amount must match the stolen value, removing ambiguity. This policy change ensures affected households receive the full benefit amount they lost due to criminal activity, without requiring them to prove additional hardship.

Maddy summaryThe SHIELD Act (HR 3101) would create a federal grant program to expand legal representation for immigrants facing deportation. It authorizes $100 million annually for fiscal years 2026-2027 to fund workforce development, training, and infrastructure for legal services organizations. Eligible recipients include states, local governments, community organizations, and educational institutions that provide immigration legal services. Funds would support recruitment and training of legal staff, technical assistance, and coordination of services to better serve immigrants in deportation proceedings, addressing the current shortage of representation that affects most immigrants in deportation cases who cannot afford attorneys.
Maddy summaryThis bill designates the U.S. Postal Service facility at 216 Cumberland Street in Rochester, New York, as the "Minister Franklin Florence Memorial Post Office." It updates all official references in federal laws, maps, regulations, and documents to reflect this new name. The bill does not create new policies, funding, or services - it solely changes the facility's official designation for commemorative purposes. It directly affects how the location is identified in government records but has no broader policy impact.
Maddy summaryThe Equality Act (HR 15) amends federal civil rights laws to explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, public accommodations, credit, and jury service. It expands existing protections under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by adding sexual orientation and gender identity as protected characteristics under sex discrimination prohibitions. The bill clarifies that discrimination against LGBTQ people is a form of sex discrimination, consistent with the Supreme Court's Bostock decision, and adds specific definitions for gender identity and sexual orientation. This legislation directly affects businesses, employers, housing providers, financial institutions, and government entities that serve the public. The bill creates a more comprehensive legal framework to address discrimination that LGBTQ people face in multiple aspects of daily life.
Maddy summaryHR 3067, the Arctic Refuge Protection Act, repeals the existing oil and gas program for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and designates approximately 1.56 million acres of the refuge's Coastal Plain as wilderness. This directly affects federal management of the ANWR, halting potential oil drilling in the designated area. The bill requires the Secretary of the Interior to administer the newly designated wilderness area under the Wilderness Act, treating it as part of the existing wilderness within ANWR. The change prevents future oil and gas development on this specific portion of the refuge.
Medicare for All Act This bill establishes a national health insurance program that is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Among other requirements, the program must (1) cover all U.S. residents; (2) provide for automatic enrollment of individuals upon birth or residency in the United States; and (3) cover items and services that are medically necessary or appropriate to maintain health or to diagnose, treat, or rehabilitate a health condition, including hospital services, prescription drugs, mental health and substance abuse treatment, dental and vision services, long-term care, gender affirming care, and reproductive care, including contraception and abortions. The bill prohibits cost-sharing (e.g., deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments) and other charges for covered services. Additionally, private health insurers and employers may only offer coverage that is supplemental to, and not duplicative of, benefits provided under the program. Health insurance exchanges and specified federal health programs terminate upon program implementation. However, the program does not affect coverage provided through the Department of Veterans Affairs or the Indian Health Service. The bill also establishes a series of implementing provisions relating to (1) health care provider participation; (2) HHS administration; and (3) payments and costs, including the requirement that HHS negotiate prices for prescription drugs. Individuals who are age 18 or younger, age 55 or older, or already enrolled in Medicare may enroll in the program starting one year after enactment of this bill; other individuals may buy into the program at this time. The program must be fully implemented two years after enactment.
Maddy summaryHRES 356 is a symbolic House resolution supporting the designation of April 13-26, 2025, as "National Young Audiences Arts for Learning Week." It honors the work of the Young Audiences Arts for Learning network, which provides arts-integrated education programs to students across the U.S. through partnerships with schools and community organizations. The resolution recognizes how arts education develops critical thinking, creativity, and academic skills for students, particularly in underserved communities, and encourages nationwide observance to promote awareness of arts in education. (Note: This is a non-binding resolution, not a law, and directly affects the Young Audiences network and its partner schools.)
Maddy summaryHR 3045, the West Bank Violence Prevention Act of 2025, imposes U.S. sanctions on foreign individuals and entities responsible for violence, displacement, or property destruction in the West Bank. It targets those directly involved in attacks on civilians, forced displacement, or property seizures, including settler leaders or officials of groups engaged in such activities. Key provisions require freezing assets of sanctioned individuals within U.S. jurisdiction and blocking their entry into the United States via visa restrictions. The law applies to foreign nationals meeting specific criteria outlined in the bill, not U.S. citizens or entities.
Maddy summaryHRES 341 is a symbolic House resolution expressing support for Earth Day, not a substantive bill. It urges the President to issue an Earth Day proclamation, encourages Americans to address environmental challenges (like climate change and litter), and calls for rejoining the Paris Agreement - though these are non-binding recommendations with no legal force. The resolution references historical environmental legislation (like the Clean Air Act) but does not create new policies, allocate funds, or change regulations. It directly affects no specific group, as it solely serves to affirm environmental values through symbolic recognition. (Note: The document header incorrectly lists "Federal Water Pollution Control Act" as the bill text, but this is a formatting error; the actual resolution is about Earth Day.)
Maddy summaryThis bill changes how digital asset income is taxed for Puerto Rican residents under federal law. It specifies that income from digital assets - such as mining, staking, holding (including forks/airdrops), or selling/exchanging them - will no longer be treated as derived from Puerto Rico for tax purposes. This means such income would not be subject to Puerto Rico's tax jurisdiction under the Internal Revenue Code. The provision applies to taxable years beginning after the bill's enactment, directly affecting Puerto Rican residents earning income through these digital asset activities. The bill defines "digital asset" as a cryptographically secured digital representation of value recorded on a distributed ledger.
