Calling for the urgent delivery and disbursement of humanitarian aid to address the needs of civilians in Gaza.

Maddy summaryHRES 473 is a non-binding House resolution calling on the U.S. government to urgently use diplomatic efforts to ensure food and medical supplies reach civilians in Gaza. It directly addresses the needs of approximately 2.2 million Palestinians facing acute hunger, including 10,000 children identified with acute malnutrition, following a border blockade that blocked aid from March to May 2025. The resolution specifically urges the White House and State Department to secure "immediate and secure delivery and disbursement" of aid and a lasting end to the conflict, citing collapsed bakeries, exhausted food rations, and a near-total health system collapse.

Extreme Heat Economic Study Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill directs the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to conduct a study on the financial costs of extreme heat events. The study will quantify economic impacts including health costs (emergency care, hospitalizations), property damage, insurance claims, labor productivity losses, infrastructure disruptions, energy expenses, and agricultural losses. NOAA must coordinate with multiple federal agencies (like Health, Agriculture, and Energy Departments) and publish findings on HEAT.gov within 4 years. The bill does not create new regulations or directly affect citizens; it solely authorizes a data-gathering study to inform future policy.

Coordinated Federal Response to Extreme Heat Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill establishes a federal interagency committee within NOAA to coordinate heat-health response across 15+ departments (including HHS, EPA, and FEMA) and requires a 5-year strategic plan to improve data sharing, research, and public communication about extreme heat. It creates the National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) to centralize heat-related data and forecasts, making it openly available for public use. The law mandates $5 million annually for 2025-2029 to fund these efforts, directly affecting federal agencies, state/local governments, Tribal nations, and communities facing heat risks. Key provisions include standardizing heat definitions, requiring agency coordination, and building public health preparedness tools to reduce heat-related illness and death.

VA Employee Fairness Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill reorganizes collective bargaining rules for Veterans Health Administration (VHA) employees by removing existing subsections (b), (c), and (d) from Section 7422 of Title 38 and redesignating the current subsection (e) as (b). It directly affects VA health care employees by altering the structure of their collective bargaining framework. The bill explicitly states it does not change the Secretary of Veterans Affairs' existing authorities over incentive pay or expedited hiring under Section 706 of Title 38. The change is purely procedural, focusing on the internal organization of bargaining rules without introducing new employee benefits or obligations.

Supporting the goals and ideals of the month of May as Sex Ed For All Month: Equity and Access for All.

Maddy summaryHRES 445 is a non-binding resolution designating May as "Sex Ed For All Month" to promote comprehensive sex education. It urges public officials, schools, and health organizations to prioritize evidence-based programs that address racial and gender inequities, reduce unintended pregnancies and STIs, and support all young people - including LGBTQ+ youth and those with disabilities. The resolution emphasizes that inclusive sex education delays sexual activity, increases contraceptive use, and fosters healthy relationships, citing research on its benefits. As a symbolic statement, it does not create new laws or allocate funds but calls for action to ensure equitable access to medically accurate, culturally responsive education.

Real Education and Access for Healthy Youth Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThe Real Education and Access for Healthy Youth Act of 2025 would provide federal grants to support comprehensive sex education and sexual health services for young people aged 10-29. The bill establishes four grant programs: for K-12 schools and youth organizations, for colleges and universities, for educator training, and for sexual health services specifically targeting underserved youth. To qualify for funding, programs must be evidence-informed, medically accurate, inclusive of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed. The bill appropriates $100 million annually for fiscal years 2026-2031, with specific funding allocations for each program type. It prohibits funding for programs that withhold health information, promote stereotypes, or fail to address the needs of specific groups like pregnant youth or survivors of violence.
