Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act

Maddy summaryHR 2808, the Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act, restricts how consumer reporting agencies share credit reports during mortgage applications. It prevents agencies from sending these reports to third parties unless the request is tied to a firm credit offer and the recipient has either the homebuyer’s explicit written consent or is directly involved in the mortgage (like the lender, loan servicer, or the homebuyer’s bank holding an active account). This directly affects homebuyers applying for residential mortgages by limiting unsolicited sharing of their credit information. The law amends the Fair Credit Reporting Act to strengthen privacy protections around mortgage-related credit data.

Directing the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to continue its ongoing investigation into the possible mismanagement of the Federal government’s investigation of Mr. Jeffrey Epstein and Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell, and for other purposes.

Maddy summaryHRES 668 directs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to continue its investigation into possible mismanagement of the federal government’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases, including Epstein’s death and sex trafficking networks. The resolution requires the committee to publicly release unclassified documents related to the investigation - such as communications, travel records, and immunity deals - with limited exceptions for privacy, active cases, or classified national security information. It prohibits withholding documents due to embarrassment or political sensitivity and mandates written justifications for any redactions. This resolution affects the Oversight Committee, federal agencies (like the DOJ and Treasury), and the public seeking transparency. It is procedural, not a new law, focusing on directing an ongoing investigation and document disclosure.

Preserving Patient Access to Long-Term Care Pharmacies Act

Maddy summaryHR 5031, the *Preserving Patient Access to Long-Term Care Pharmacies Act*, requires Medicare Part D plans and Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage (MA-PD) to pay long-term care pharmacies an additional supply fee for each specified prescription dispensed to eligible beneficiaries during 2026 ($30) and 2027 (adjusted for inflation). This fee must be paid alongside existing reimbursements for drug costs and dispensing, with a $10,000 penalty for non-payment. Expressing the importance of accurate information for medical professionals treating pregnant women and their unborn children in the emergency department, and for informing the general public, and for other purposes.

Maddy summaryThis resolution (HRES 611) clarifies that treating life-threatening conditions like ectopic pregnancy is medically and legally distinct from elective abortion. It aims to prevent confusion among medical professionals by emphasizing that emergency care for ectopic pregnancy (which requires specific treatments like methotrexate or surgery) does not constitute abortion. The resolution calls on medical organizations and healthcare educators to accurately inform providers and the public about this distinction, ensuring timely treatment without unnecessary delays. As a non-binding resolution, it does not change laws but seeks to address post-*Dobbs* confusion in emergency care.

Save Our Bacon Act

Maddy summaryThis bill establishes a federal right for livestock producers to sell meat and dairy products across state lines without facing conflicting state regulations. It prevents states from imposing production standards (like animal welfare rules) on products not raised within that state, ensuring a uniform national market for covered livestock products. The law specifically covers animals raised for meat or dairy (including milk products), but excludes egg production. This aims to eliminate barriers to interstate commerce for these products while aligning with U.S. trade obligations.

Veterans’ ACCESS Act of 2025

Veterans' Assuring Critical Care Expansions to Support Servicemembers Act of 2025 or the Veterans' ACCESS Act of 2025 This bill addresses the administration of the Veterans Community Care Program (VCCP) and other Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care matters. Among other provisions regarding the VCCP, the bill establishes in statute access standards that determine when a veteran is eligible to receive non-VA care through the VCCP, requires the VA to notify veterans regarding their eligibility for care within two business days after the VA is aware the veteran is seeking care, and extends the deadline for the submittal of claims under the VCCP by health care entities and providers. The VA must address its mental health treatment programs by establishing a standardized screening process to determine whether a veteran satisfies criteria for priority or routine admission to a mental health residential rehabilitation treatment program or a program for residential care for mental health and substance abuse disorders, tracking the performance of medical facilities and Veterans Integrated Service Networks in meeting the requirements for mental health treatment screenings and timely admission to treatment programs under such screenings, and establishing an appeal process for when a veteran is denied admission to a covered treatment program or is accepted into a program but not offered bed placement in a timely manner. Additionally, the VA must establish an online self-service module for veterans to request and manage appointments, track referrals, and appeal and track decisions related to requests for care.

Supporting Apprenticeship Colleges Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill establishes two grant programs to support construction and manufacturing apprenticeship colleges. It provides up to $500,000 per college for community outreach (e.g., connecting with high schools, rural businesses, and workforce boards) and student support services (e.g., academic advising, mental health resources, childcare). The grants target increasing enrollment and completion rates for underrepresented groups, including rural students, first-generation college students, and minorities. Funding of $5 million annually (2026-2030) requires colleges to report on program outcomes like retention rates and diversity metrics. The law directly affects apprenticeship colleges offering work-based training in construction and manufacturing fields.
