Maddy summaryAlyssa's Act of 2025 expands the Federal Clearinghouse on School Safety Evidence-based Practices to collect and analyze school safety data, including information on school shootings and emergency response effectiveness. The bill creates a National School Safety Data Center to track incidents, injuries, and response methods, while requiring emergency response maps for schools to meet specific digital standards for accessibility and real-time updates. It also establishes a program to develop and test panic alarm technology for schools, and mandates annual reports on school safety master plans developed by states and local educational agencies. The legislation requires coordination with the U.S. Secret Service's National Threat Assessment Center to align school safety practices with evidence-based approaches.

Maddy summaryThis House resolution (HRES 952) expresses the U.S. House of Representatives' support for Gibraltar's right to determine its own political status as a British Overseas Territory through self-determination. It recognizes Gibraltar's democratic choices - where over 98% of voters chose to remain under British sovereignty in 1967 and 2002 - and highlights Gibraltar's historical role in U.S. military operations, including World War II and NATO missions. The resolution affirms that Gibraltarians' views must be central to any discussions about Gibraltar's future status, while acknowledging the territory's strategic importance to U.S. security interests in the Mediterranean. As a non-binding resolution, it does not alter U.S. policy but formally honors Gibraltar's contributions and right to self-determination under international law.

Maddy summaryHR 1676, the "Make SWAPs Efficient Act of 2025," requires the federal government to approve or deny state wildlife conservation plans within 180 days of receiving them. This directly affects states that submit comprehensive wildlife conservation plans under the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act. If the Secretary fails to act within that timeframe, the state's plan is automatically approved as of the 180th day. The bill streamlines the approval process to prevent federal delays from blocking state conservation funding.
Maddy summaryThis bill would amend the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1987 to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization and prohibit its operations within the United States. It would require the President to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization under immigration law and impose new visa restrictions, including immediate revocation of current visas, for individuals identified as members. The bill mandates annual reports from the Secretary of State identifying Muslim Brotherhood branches worldwide and determining which should be designated as terrorist organizations under existing laws. These provisions would directly affect Muslim Brotherhood members, branches, and affiliated organizations seeking entry to or operating within the United States.
Give Kids a Chance Act of 2025 This bill expands the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) authority with respect to research on rare pediatric diseases, including by permitting the FDA to take enforcement action against drug sponsors that fail to satisfy pediatric study requirements and by reauthorizing programs that support pediatric research. Specifically, the bill modifies requirements relating to molecularly targeted pediatric cancer investigations to permit research on new drugs in combination with active ingredients that have already been approved, provided certain conditions are met; permits the FDA to take enforcement action against drug sponsors that fail to comply with pediatric study requirements, if such sponsors demonstrated a lack of due diligence in satisfying the requirement; renews the FDA’s authority to award priority review vouchers to sponsors of new products intended to treat rare pediatric diseases through September 30, 2029; and reauthorizes through FY2027 certain funding for the National Institutes of Health to support priority pediatric research. The bill also provides statutory authority for the FDA’s interpretation of the orphan drug exclusivity period. The bill specifies, consistent with FDA regulations, that the seven-year market exclusivity period for drugs for rare diseases or conditions (i.e., orphan drugs) prohibits the approval of the same drug for the same approved use or indication with respect to the disease or condition. (In Catalyst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. v. Becerra , a court rejected the FDA’s interpretation and held that orphan drug exclusivity extends to all uses or indications for the disease or condition.)
Maddy summaryHCONRES 58 is a symbolic congressional resolution denouncing socialism in all its forms. It does not create new laws or affect any policies, as it is a non-binding statement of opinion. The resolution cites historical events and quotes from Founding Fathers to argue that socialism leads to authoritarianism and economic harm, referencing examples like the Soviet Union and Venezuela. It formally "denounces" socialism and opposes implementing socialist policies in the U.S., but has no legal effect on citizens or government actions. This is a procedural resolution, not a policy measure.
Maddy summaryHR 6068, the PROTECT Florida Act, extends the existing moratorium on oil and gas leasing and exploration in the Gulf of Mexico through 2032 and adds a new, permanent ban on these activities off Florida’s Atlantic coast. It directly affects federal agencies (like the Department of the Interior), which cannot issue permits for oil/gas exploration, seismic testing, or related activities in two specific zones: the Straits of Florida and the South Atlantic Planning Area south of Florida’s coastline. The bill blocks all leasing, preleasing, and exploration permits in these areas from enactment until June 30, 2032. This policy change prevents new offshore drilling and seismic surveys in Florida’s coastal waters, aiming to protect marine environments and coastal communities.
Maddy summaryThis bill requires all new passenger vehicles manufactured for sale in the U.S. to include AM radio as standard equipment (not an optional add-on) by 2027-2028, depending on manufacturer size. It mandates that AM radio receivers must be easily accessible to drivers and allows compliance through digital AM broadcast technology. During a transition period, manufacturers must clearly label vehicles without AM radio but cannot charge extra for this feature. The bill also mandates a GAO study on AM radio's role in emergency alerts and includes a 10-year sunset provision for the rule. It preempts state laws regarding AM radio access in vehicles.
Maddy summaryThis bill adds Medicare coverage for multi-cancer early detection screening tests (blood or biological tests analyzing cell-free DNA) starting January 1, 2028. It directly affects Medicare beneficiaries aged 68 and older (starting in 2028, with the age limit increasing by 1 year annually), requiring tests to be FDA-cleared and deemed reasonable/necessary by the Secretary for early cancer detection across multiple organ sites. Payment will initially match current stool DNA test rates before 2031, then shift to a lower rate or new payment system after 2031, with limits preventing more than one test per year. The bill explicitly states it does not alter coverage for existing cancer screenings like breast, colorectal, or prostate cancer tests.
