This measure would request that Congress adopt a national freight policy as a component of the next federal transportation bill and subsequently direct the United States Department of Transportation to implement its provisions.
This measure would urge the Congress of the United States and the President to amend the United States Internal Revenue Code to allow all eligible government employees participating in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan the option to treat their elective deferrals as designated Roth contributions. The measure would also urge the Congress of the United States and the President to create parity among all workers by presenting 457(b) plan participants with savings choices similar to those given to participants planning for retirement under the Economic Growth and Tax Reconciliation Act of 2001 and the federal government's Thrift Savings Plan.
Existing law prescribes the instruments in, and criteria by, which local agencies, as defined, may invest surplus funds. Existing law authorizes, until January 1, 2012, the investment of up to 30% of those funds in certificates of deposit at a commercial bank, savings bank, savings and loan association, or credit union that uses a private sector entity that assists in the placement of certificates of deposit under specified conditions. This bill would delete the January 1, 2012, sunset date for these provisions, thereby extending the operation of these provisions indefinitely.
This measure would urge the Congress of the United States to include the Reuniting Families Act and the Uniting American Families Act in comprehensive immigration reform or to pass, and President Obama to sign, the Uniting American Families Act as stand-alone legislation and support the removal of legal barriers to immigration by permanent same-sex partners.

Existing law requires the Attorney General to pay certain judgments against the state. This bill would appropriate 2 specified amounts to the Attorney General to pay the settlements in 2 specified cases. This bill would declare that it is to take effect immediately as an urgency statute.
This measure would designate Friday, May 7, 2010, as California Peace Officers' Memorial Day and would urge all Californians to use that day to honor California peace officers.
