Relative to The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

This measure would acknowledge that there is a continued need for the State of California to protect the human rights of women and girls and to analyze the operations of state departments, policies, and programs to identify discrimination and, if identified, to remedy that discrimination. The measure would support the implementation of the principles underlying the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) .

Relative to California Girls and Women in Sports Week.

This measure would recognize female athletes, coaches, officials, and sports administrators for their important contributions in promoting the value of sports in the achievement of full human potential and would proclaim January 29, 2018, to February 4, 2018, inclusive, as California Girls and Women in Sports Week.

Pupil instruction: digital citizenship and media literacy.

Existing law provides for a system of public schools and requires the adopted course of study for grades 1 to 12, inclusive, to include instruction in specified areas of study. This bill would require, on or before December 1, 2018, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, in consultation with the executive director of the State Board of Education, to identify best practices and recommendations for instruction in digital citizenship, Internet safety, and media literacy and to report to the appropriate fiscal and policy committees of the Legislature on strategies to implement the best practices and recommendations statewide. The bill would require the Superintendent to convene and consult with an advisory committee consisting of specified representatives in developing the best practices and recommendations.
