This measure would proclaim October 2010 as Lupus Awareness Month and would wish Lupus International every success in the future.
This measure would ask the Internal Revenue Service to issue a new ruling with respect to the federal income tax treatment of registered domestic partners and same-sex married couples.
Under existing law, a social host who furnishes alcoholic beverages to any person may not be held legally accountable for damages suffered by that person, or for injury to the person or property of, or death of, any 3rd person, resulting from the consumption of those beverages. This bill would provide that these provisions do not preclude a claim against a parent, guardian, or another adult who knowingly furnishes alcoholic beverages at his or her residence to a person under 21 years of age and that furnishing the alcoholic beverages may be found to be the proximate cause of resulting injuries or death, as provided.
(1) The Hazardous Waste Control Law prohibits the use of a nonbiodegradable toxic chemical in a chemical toilet, recreational vehicle, or waste facility of a vessel and the sale of a nonbiodegradable toxic chemical in a container indicating that the chemical could be used in a chemical toilet, waste facility of a recreational vehicle, or waste facility of a vessel. The department is required by June 1, 1978, to develop and adopt regulations to define nonbiodegradable toxic chemicals and set limitations on the sale of those chemicals. A violation of the hazardous waste control law is a crime. This bill would additionally prohibit the use and sale of a chemical that is detrimental to a sewage disposal system for those purposes. The bill would list those chemicals that are detrimental to a sewage disposal system and would authorize the department to adopt regulations that identify additional chemicals determined to be detrimental to a sewage disposal system. Because the bill would include additional chemicals in the prohibition against sale or use, this bill would enlarge the scope of a crime, thereby imposing a state-mandated local program. The bill would also make discretionary the adoption of regulations with regard to nonbiodegradable toxic chemicals. (2) The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement. This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason.
This measure would declare the last week of March every year as a statewide week of advocacy for Latino education.
This measure would recognize April 2010 as County Government Month.
This measure would recognize March 2, 2010, as "Read Across America Day."
This bill would declare August 2010 as Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness Month.
This measure would proclaim February 28, 2010, as Rare Disease Day.
This measure would establish, until January 1, 2014, the California Task Force on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education for the purpose of promoting the improvement of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology education across the state. The task force would consist of Members of the Legislature and experts appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly and the Senate Committee on Rules. The task force would conduct its business on a volunteer basis, be able to accept private funds, and would submit an annual report on its work to the Legislature.
