This measure would recognize June 8 as World Oceans Day, and would declare that the Legislature intends to act decisively in 2018 in regard to passing legislation aimed at reducing plastic pollution in California rivers, beaches, and ocean, and would further declare that the State of California is determined to seek additional ways to curb plastic pollution on those waterways and beaches, and in other natural spaces and communities.

This measure would recognize June 12, 2018, as the 120th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and would call upon the people of the state to observe the month of June with appropriate ceremonies, programs, and activities.

This measure would commemorate Wednesday, June 6, 2018, as the 40th anniversary date of Proposition 13, in recognition of the impact Proposition 13 has had on the State of California.

This measure would condemn the decision to end the Temporary Protected Status designation for El Salvador, Haiti, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Sudan. The measure would also urge the United States Congress to enact a bipartisan permanent solution for Salvadorans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, Hondurans, and Sudanese with Temporary Protected Status.

This measure would declare June 6, 2018, as Secure Your Load Day in California.

The Joint Exercise of Powers Act generally authorizes 2 or more public agencies, by agreement, to jointly exercise any common power. Existing law authorizes the County of Orange and the cities in that county, by ordinance, to require the payment of fees as a condition of approval of a final map or as a condition of issuing a building permit for purposes of defraying the actual or estimated cost of constructing bridges over waterways, railways, freeways, and canyons, or constructing major thoroughfares. Existing law authorizes those entities to form a joint powers agency for specified purposes, including incurring indebtedness for the construction of bridge facilities or major thoroughfares, pursuant to which various toll roads in the County of Orange were constructed. This bill would prohibit those entities, on and after January 1, 2018, from forming a new joint powers agency to construct bridge facilities or major thoroughfares under that specific authorization or the general authorization. The bill would prohibit a joint powers agency formed under that specific authorization from incurring new bonded indebtedness, except for specified purposes. Existing law authorizes a joint powers agency created for these purposes to make certain toll revenues and fees available to specified other joint powers agencies to pay for the cost of construction and toll collection of major thoroughfares other than those for which the toll or fee is charged if specified requirements are met and findings are made. This bill would delete this provision.

This measure would declare June 6, 2018, as California Nonprofits Day in recognition of the importance of nonprofit organizations to the economy and well-being of this state.

This measure would designate June 2018 as Second Chances Month in California, highlighting existing services and events to support reentry.

This measure would encourage the people of the State of California to recognize the potential and possibilities of our children, instead of focusing on their deficits.
