This measure would designate the month of May 2017 as Asthma Awareness Month in order to increase awareness and understanding about asthma and educate those with the disease, their families, and their communities on the treatments available and the methods of preventing attacks.
This measure would declare May 10, 2017, as the 29th Annual State Scientist Day, as a tribute to the dedication and professionalism of the state scientists who work on behalf of all the residents of California.
Existing law requires a court to impose a separate and additional restitution fine in each case in which a person is convicted of a crime. If the economic losses of a victim cannot be ascertained at the time of sentencing, existing law requires a court to retain jurisdiction over a person subject to a restitution order for purposes of imposing or modifying restitution until such time as the losses may be determined. Two state appellate court decisions have held that under state law a court acts in excess of its jurisdiction by ordering restitution or modifying a restitution order after the expiration of a defendant's probation. This bill would expressly abrogate the holdings in those decisions by requiring the court, in cases in which probation has been granted, to retain jurisdiction over a defendant for purposes of imposing or modifying restitution for a period of 5 years following sentencing, or until the expiration of probation or mandatory supervision, whichever is later.
This measure would recognize May 10, 2017, and each May 10 thereafter, as Asian and Pacific Islander American Mental Health Day, and would acknowledge the importance of raising awareness about mental health in the Asian and Pacific Islander American community.
This measure would recognize May 2017 as Blue Star Mothers of America Month, as specified.
This measure would designate the month of May 2017 as California Fairgrounds Appreciation Month and would extend the Legislature's warmest regards and appreciation to the thousands of volunteers, fair directors, staff, business supporters, and sponsors who keep the California fairgrounds' network strong, vibrant, relevant, and successful.
This measure would proclaim the week of May 1, 2017, to May 7, 2017, inclusive, as California Physical Education Week and would encourage physical education teachers, school administrators responsible for the planning and supervision of physical education, and governing boards of school districts setting policy for physical education to promote the highest quality physical education year round and in future years.
This measure would declare the week of May 14 to May 20, 2017, as Food Allergy Awareness Week and encourage Californians to increase their understanding and awareness of food allergies and anaphylaxis.
This measure would recognize May 2017 as Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month.
This measure would declare the support of the Legislature for the expansion of sensory-friendly movie screenings and similar programs for people with autism, and would encourage families to attend a sensory-friendly movie screening during April 2017, National Autism Awareness Month.
