This measure declares that Sundays are "Eat Local, Buy California Grown Day," and encourages families, restaurants, and grocers to buy California-grown floriculture, fiber, and foods.
This measure would declare February 19, 2011, as a Day of Remembrance in order to increase public awareness of the events surrounding the internment of Americans of Japanese ancestry during World War II.
This measure would designate the week of April 18 to 24, 2011, as "California Week of Remembrance for the Armenian Genocide of 1915–1923," and would memorialize the Congress and the President of the United States to observe the California Week of Remembrance for the Armenian Genocide by participating in the Armenian Genocide Commemorative Project.
This measure would declare the week of April 10, 2011, to April 16, 2011, inclusive, as Crime Victims' Rights Week.
Existing law, with certain exceptions, establishes 8 hours as a day's work and a 40-hour workweek, and requires payment of prescribed overtime compensation for additional hours worked. Existing law authorizes the adoption by 23 of employees in a work unit of alternative workweek schedules providing for workdays no longer than 10 hours within a 40-hour workweek. This bill would permit an individual nonexempt employee to request an employee-selected flexible work schedule providing for workdays up to 10 hours per day within a 40-hour workweek, and would allow an employer to implement this schedule without the obligation to pay overtime compensation for those additional hours in a workday. The bill would require the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement in the Department of Industrial Relations to enforce this provision and adopt regulations.
This measure would declare the week of June 6 through June 12, 2011, to be Dropout Recovery Week and would state the Legislature's intent to encourage the support of dropout recovery high schools with creative teaching strategies, alternative assessments, and adequate resources.
Existing law requires the California State University and each community college district, and requests the University of California, with respect to each campus in their respective jurisdictions that administers a priority enrollment system, to grant priority for registration for enrollment to any member or former member of the Armed Forces of the United States for any academic term attended at one of these institutions within 2 years of leaving active duty. This bill would also grant priority class registration to these members or former members of the Armed Forces, who are California residents, within 5 years of leaving active duty, as specified. Because the bill would impose additional duties on the California Community Colleges in evaluating an individual's eligibility for priority in enrollment, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program. The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement. This bill would provide that, if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs shall be made pursuant to these statutory provisions.
This measure would recognize that the California Prayer Breakfast is commemorating and celebrating its 50th year of existence at the State Capitol in 2011 with the California Prayer Breakfast being held on May 19, 2011, at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel.
Existing law requires the Governor to fill a vacancy on any county board of supervisors. This bill would require the Governor to fill the vacancy or authorize the board of supervisors to fill the vacancy within 180 days, and if the Governor fails to act within 180 days, the bill would authorize the board of supervisors, within the next 90 days, to appoint an individual to fill the vacancy, call a special election to fill the vacancy, or leave the vacancy open until the next regularly scheduled general election, as provided. The bill would provide that if the Governor and board of supervisors both fail to act, then the vacancy shall remain open until the next regular election at which time a successor may be elected.
