This measure would designate March 25 through March 31, 2012, as California Tsunami Awareness Week.
This measure would declare the week of March 12, 2012, through March 16, 2012, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week.
This measure would declare March 2012 to be Campus Safety Month, and would encourage citizens to visit the Internet Web site of the national nonprofit organization Security On Campus, Inc., to view public safety information about public and private colleges and universities.
This measure would recognize the month of February 2012 as American Heart Month in California and recognize February 3, 2012, as Wear Red Day in California.
Existing federal law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act, beginning in 2014, requires most individuals to maintain minimum essential health care coverage or pay a penalty. This measure would amend the California Constitution to prohibit a federal, state, or local law or rule from compelling a person or business to participate in a health care system, as defined; imposing penalties or fines, as defined, for failure to maintain coverage; or prohibiting the sale or purchase of health care or health insurance, subject to specified exceptions.
The Political Reform Act of 1974 establishes the Fair Political Practices Commission, which has the primary responsibility for the impartial, effective administration and implementation of the act, including acting as the civil prosecutor responsible for the enforcement of the penalty provisions of the act. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would require the Fair Political Practices Commission to have primary responsibility for the impartial, effective administration, implementation, and enforcement of a campaign reform ordinance for the County of San Bernardino, which would apply as to the county only if the board of supervisors has adopted a campaign reform ordinance and also has adopted an ordinance to make the statute applicable in the county.
This resolution would recognize the month of January 2012, and each following January, as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and it would recognize February 1, 2012, and each following February 1, as California's Free From Slavery Day.
