This measure would proclaim May 12, 2010, as California Lab Day.

This measure would designate the 2nd week of October 2010, and annually thereafter, as Disability History Week, and would encourage public and private institutions of higher education, state and local agencies, nonprofit and community-based organizations, and private businesses and corporations to observe Disability History Week by dedicating appropriate classroom instructional time or by coordinating all-inclusive activities to be conducted during that week to afford opportunities for students and the general public to learn more about the disability community and to celebrate and honor its role in contemporary American society.

This measure would declare the Legislature's support for the observance of "Spirit of '45 Day" on the second Sunday in August to commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War II on August 14, 1945.

This measure would recognize each 2nd week of February hereafter as African American Mental Health Awareness Week.

Existing law makes it unlawful for any association of persons to engage, directly or indirectly, in the soliciting of donations or in selling salvageable personal property obtained by soliciting, except qualified charitable organizations, as described, that meet specified requirements. Existing law authorizes counties and cities to impose additional requirements for the privilege of soliciting and selling salvageable personal property within their jurisdictions. This bill would impose requirements for the placement of statements specifying prescribed information on collection boxes, as defined. The bill specifies that its provisions shall not be deemed to supersede the authority of the Department of Justice or to limit a city, county, or city and county from regulating, monitoring, or prohibiting collection boxes. The bill would also allow the city, county, or city and county to declare a collection box that is in violation of these provisions to be a public nuisance and to impose additional requirements on the solicitation and sale of salvageable personal property within its jurisdiction.

Existing law authorizes the Counties of Los Angeles, Merced, Orange, and Stanislaus to participate in a pilot program to permit the electronic filing of statements of economic interests. This bill would additionally authorize the Counties of Santa Clara and Ventura, as well as the City of Long Beach, to permit the electronic filing of the required statements of economic interests. The Political Reform Act of 1974, an initiative measure, provides that the Legislature may amend the act to further the act's purposes upon a 23 vote of each house and compliance with specified procedural requirements. This bill would declare that it furthers the purposes of the act.

This measure would call upon the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers to develop common core state standards in the core academic disciplines of English-language arts, mathematics, history-social science, and science, request that they replicate the process used to develop English-language arts and mathematics common core state standards to now develop common core state standards for social studies and science, and examine the viability of developing common standards in foreign language, visual and performing arts, physical education, career technical education, and other subject areas.

This measure would memorialize the United States Senate to ratify, and the President to sign, the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and would memorialize the Congress of the United States and the President to enact appropriate legislation that addresses the concerns expressed in this measure.

This measure would specify principles for repairing the nation's broken immigration system and would urge Congress and the President of the United States to take a comprehensive and workable approach to improving the nation's immigration system using those principles.

This measure would proclaim the 3rd Monday of each September as California Memorial Project Remembrance Day in California, to honor and restore dignity to individuals who lived and died in California institutions.
