This measure would commemorate the 40th anniversary of Title IX on June 23, 2012, commend the movement toward increased equality and fair treatment of female athletes, and praise the goal of greater opportunities in sports for girls and young women in California.
This measure would proclaim June 2012 as Scleroderma Awareness Month.
Existing law requires the California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board to ensure that all claims that have been approved by the board, and for which there exists no legally available appropriation, are submitted for legislative approval at least twice each calendar year. This bill would appropriate $859,738.51 from various funds to the Executive Officer of the California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board to pay claims accepted by the board. The bill would require the Controller, upon the request of the board, in a form prescribed by the Controller, to transfer surcharges and fees from specified Budget Act items of appropriation identified in the bill to Item 1870-001-0001 of Section 2.00 of the Budget Act of 2012. This bill would declare that it is to take effect immediately as an urgency statute.
Existing law prescribes various eligibility and procedural requirements for a person to become a candidate for elective office. This bill would prohibit the consideration of a person as a candidate for, and would provide that the person is not eligible to be elected to, any state or local elective office if the person has been convicted of a felony involving accepting or giving, or offering to give, any bribe, the embezzlement of public money, extortion or theft of public money, perjury, or conspiracy to commit any of those crimes. The bill would provide that "conviction of a felony" includes a conviction of a felony in this state and a conviction under the laws of any other state, the United States, or any foreign government or country of a crime that, if committed in this state, would be a felony, and for which the person has not received a pardon from the Governor of this state, the governor or other officer authorized to grant pardons in another state, the President of the United States, or the officer of the foreign government or country authorized to grant pardons in that foreign jurisdiction.
Existing law requires the Public Utilities Commission to undertake a gas safety inspection and enforcement program for mobilehome parks with distribution systems to ensure compliance with the federal pipeline standards, as defined, by propane operators within the state. Existing law requires that the commission conduct an initial inspection, and, if the operator demonstrates compliance, to inspect the system every 5 years. This bill would require that if the operator demonstrates compliance with the initial inspection, additional inspections be made at least once every 7 years pursuant to a risk-based inspection schedule adopted by the commission. Existing law requires the Public Utilities Commission to undertake a propane safety inspection and enforcement program for propane distribution systems to ensure compliance with the federal pipeline standards, as defined, by propane operators within the state. Existing law requires that the commission conduct an initial inspection, and, if the operator demonstrates compliance, inspect the system once every 5 years for distribution systems with less than 100 customers, once every 3 years for distribution systems with 100 or more but less than 200 customers, and once every 2 years for distribution systems with 200 or more customers. This bill would require that if the operator demonstrates compliance with the initial inspection, additional inspections be made at least once every 7 years pursuant to a risk-based inspection schedule adopted by the commission.
This measure would designate November 2012 as California Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month. It would recognize and acknowledge the significant contributions made by Californians of Sikh heritage to the state and afford all Californians the opportunity to understand, recognize, and appreciate the rich history and shared principles of Sikh Americans.
This measure would declare May 2012 to be American Stroke Month in California.
