This measure would request the President and the Congress of the United States to enact the Social Security Fairness Act of 2009, which would repeal the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision from the Social Security Act.

This measure would call upon the Congress of the United States to quickly pass the federal Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries Boundary Modification and Protection Act and the President of the United States to expeditiously sign it into law.
This measure requests the United States government to restrict swordfish imports unless and until there is a process by which a nation seeking to export swordfish or swordfish products to the United States provides reasonable proof of the effects on marine mammals of the commercial fishing technology used to obtain the swordfish or swordfish products, and the National Marine Fisheries Service receives that proof and determines that the proof demonstrates that the swordfish or swordfish products to be imported were not caught with commercial fishing technology that results in the incidental kill or incidental serious injury of marine mammals in excess of United States standards.
This measure would designate a specified portion of State Highway Route 15 in Temecula as the Deputy Kent Hintergardt Memorial Highway. The measure would also request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering those costs, to erect those signs.
This measure would urge the President and the Congress of the United States to expand federally funded research efforts aimed at developing a reliable means of detecting pancreatic cancer in its early stages.
Under the Public Employees' Retirement Law, employees of contracting agencies classified as local safety members are entitled to generally higher benefits, and subject to higher contribution rates, than those employees classified as local miscellaneous members. Existing law authorizes contracting agencies to include specified harbor and port patrol officers within the local safety member classification. Member contributions are deposited in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund, a continuously appropriated fund. This bill would authorize contracting agencies to include specified airport law enforcement officers within the local safety member classification. The bill would exclude these airport law enforcement officers who are classified as local safety members from participation in the federal Social Security Act. The bill would make an appropriation by increasing the amount of employee contributions to the continuously appropriated Public Employees' Retirement Fund.
This measure would urge the Congress of the United States and the federal administration to work with the Governor and the Legislature of the State of California to, among other things, provide federal loan guarantees, flexibility with respect to certain programs, and certain funding levels for vital programs, as specified.
This measure would declare the week of June 29 through July 5, 2009, Yellow Ribbon Week to show support for military families and for troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
