This measure would declare April 26 through April 30, 2010, as West Nile Virus and Mosquito and Vector Control Awareness Week.
This measure would declare the week of June 28 through July 4, 2010, Yellow Ribbon Week to show support for military families and for troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This measure would proclaim May 2010 as Buy California Small Business First Month to raise awareness that when California consumers, businesses, colleges, universities, and governmental agencies choose to first support California small businesses when making purchasing decisions, a wave of positive economic impacts occurs within the state and local economies.
This measure would proclaim May 2 through May 8, 2010, as Cinco de Mayo Week, and would urge all Californians to join in celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
This measure would designate Friday, May 7, 2010, as California Peace Officers' Memorial Day and would urge all Californians to use that day to honor California peace officers.
This bill would recognize the month of June as Portuguese Heritage Month.
This measure would designate a specified portion of State Highway Route 20 in Nevada County as the Eric W. Rood Memorial Expressway. The measure would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs.
This measure would designate April 2010 as Autism Awareness Month, would affirm the Legislature's commitment to the important issues related to autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) , would emphasize that each and every individual with an ASD is a valued and important member of our society, would recognize and commend the parents and relatives of individuals with ASDs for their sacrifice and dedication in providing for the special needs of individuals with ASDs, would recognize and commend the work of all nonprofit organizations that are contributing to the well-being of individuals with autism and their families, and would stress the need to identify children with ASDs and to begin early intervention services immediately after a child has been diagnosed with an ASD.
Existing law prohibits unfair competition, including, but not limited to, unlawful business acts or practices, and authorizes actions for relief under those provisions to be brought by specified governmental agencies or by a person who has suffered injury in fact and has lost money or property as a result of the unfair competition. This bill would exempt a small business, as defined, from suit and liability under those provisions if the business engages in unfair competition by acting pursuant to a contract for services with a public entity that the business entered into in good faith, without knowledge that acting pursuant to that contract would constitute unfair competition.
Existing law, with certain exceptions, establishes 8 hours as a day's work and a 40-hour workweek, and requires payment of prescribed overtime compensation for additional hours worked. Existing law authorizes the adoption by 23 of employees in a work unit of alternative workweek schedules providing for workdays no longer than 10 hours within a 40-hour workweek. This bill would permit an individual nonexempt employee to request an employee-selected flexible work schedule providing for workdays up to 10 hours per day within a 40-hour workweek, and would allow an employer to implement this schedule without any obligation to pay overtime compensation. The bill would require the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement in the Department of Industrial Relations to enforce this provision and adopt regulations.
