Vessels, Nonresident Alabama Boater Safety Certification requirement, provided

Maddy summaryThis bill requires nonresident boaters to obtain a safety certification from their home state or country before operating a motorized vessel on Alabama waters, unless they already hold an Alabama certification. It creates a new "Nonresident Alabama Boater Safety Certification" for those who do not have one from their home state, allowing them to take the required exam in any Alabama county. The law includes specific exemptions for commercial operators, people renting boats from licensed businesses, test drives accompanied by dealers, and new residents who have 30 days to get certified after moving to the state. Violations of these requirements are classified as boating violations, and the safety certification is tied to the expiration date of the holder's Alabama driver's license or identification card.
