Get Skilled, Get a Job, Give Back (G3) Program;higher education centers. Adds educational programs at highereducation centers that lead to an occupation in a high-demand fieldto the Get Skilled, Get a Job, Give Back Program (G3) Program. Thebill defines higher education centers as the Southwest Virginia HigherEducation Center, Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, NewCollege Institute, Roanoke Higher Education Center, and Institutefor Advanced Learning and Research. Under current law, the G3 Programonly includes educational programs at associate-degree-granting publicinstitutions of higher education that lead to occupations in a high-demandfield.

Mandatory minimum sentences; elimination, modification of sentence to mandatory minimum term.

Elimination of mandatory minimum sentences;modification of sentence to mandatory minimum term of confinementfor felony offenses; report. Except for aggravated murder of a law-enforcement officer, eliminates all mandatory minimum sentencesof confinement from the Code of Virginia. The bill directs the Secretaryof Public Safety and Homeland Security to establish a work groupto evaluate the feasibility of resentencing persons previously convictedof a felony offense that was punishable by a mandatory minimum termof confinement and to report its findings by November 1, 2022.
