Advancing American AI Act

Advancing American AI Act This bill requires specified federal agencies to take steps to promote artificial intelligence (AI) while aligning with U.S. values, such as the protection of privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties. For example, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must issue policies and procedures for DHS related to the acquisition and use of AI and considerations for risks and impacts related to AI-enabled systems.

Make PPE in America Act

Make PPE in America Act This bill requires certain federal procurement contracts for personal protective equipment (PPE) to be long-term (at least two years in duration) and for domestically manufactured PPE, with certain exceptions such as for nonavailability. The bill also addresses related issues, such as authorizing the Department of Homeland Security to transfer excess PPE or medically necessary equipment to the Department of Health and Human Services during public health emergencies.

Build America, Buy America Act

Build America, Buy America Act This bill requires federal infrastructure programs to provide for the use of materials produced in the United States. Each federal agency must submit to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and to Congress a report that identifies each federal financial assistance program for infrastructure administered by the agency and (1) identify domestic content procurement preferences applicable to the assistance, (2) assess the applicability of such requirements, (3) provide details on any applicable domestic content procurement preference requirement, and (4) include a description of the type of infrastructure projects that receive funding under the program. Each agency shall ensure that none of the funds made available for such a program may be used for a project unless all of the iron, steel, and manufactured products used in the project are produced in the United States, subject to waivers under specified circumstances. The Department of Transportation must enter into a technical assistance partnership with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to ensure the development of a domestic supply base to support intermodal transportation in the United States. The Office for Federal Procurement Policy shall promulgate final regulations or other policy or management guidance to standardize and simplify how federal agencies comply with, report on, and enforce the Buy American Act. The OMB must establish a Made in America Office to undertake specified activities, including to maximize and enforce compliance with domestic preference statutes.

Federal Contracting for Peace and Security Act

Federal Contracting for Peace and Security Act This bill requires executive agencies to terminate their contracts with entities conducting business operations in territory internationally recognized as Russia, with certain exceptions. This requirement ends when Russia takes steps to restore the safety, sovereignty, and condition of Ukraine.

Combating Human Rights Abuses Act of 2022

Combating Human Rights Abuses Act of 2022 This bill requires the Department of Commerce to offer guidance to U.S. businesses, including those considering transactions with entities subject to the influence of countries where significant human rights abuses have occurred, about issues such as (1) the human rights abuses perpetuated by China's government, (2) risk factors that may be used to identify entities subject to the influence of governments implicated in human rights abuses, and (3) ways to avoid doing business with such entities. Commerce must also provide training related to human rights issues to Commerce employees who provide counseling services to businesses.

Kids Online Safety Act

Kids Online Safety Act This bill sets out requirements for covered platforms (i.e., social networks, video streaming services, or other applications that connect to the internet and are likely to be used by minors) to protect minors from online harm, including requirements relating to (1) safeguards to restrict access to the personal data of minors, (2) tools to help parents supervise a minor's use of a platform, and (3) reporting of harm to minors from using the platform.

Alaska Salmon Research Task Force Act

Alaska Salmon Research Task Force Act This bill requires the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to convene an Alaska Salmon Research Task Force. The task force must review and report on research about the Pacific salmon in Alaska, identify applied research needed to better understand salmon migration and declining salmon returns in some regions of Alaska, and support sustainable management of salmon.

A resolution condemning the illegal abduction of children from Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

This resolution states that the Senate holds the Russian government responsible for the illegal kidnapping of children from Ukraine and condemns these actions. The resolution also (1) declares that illegal adoptions are contrary to the Genocide Convention (the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide); (2) claims that Russia is attempting to wipe out a generation of Ukrainian children; and (3) asserts that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has increased the risks of children being exposed to human trafficking, exploitation, child labor, gender-based violence, hunger, injury, trauma, deprivation of education and shelter, and death.

Childcare DESERTS Act

Childcare Development of Employee Solutions for Early Rearing in Towns with Shortages Act or the Childcare DESERTS Act This bill allows recipients of Small Business Administration loans under the 7(a) loan program and 504 loan program to use such loans to provide child care services to their employees.
