Maddy summaryHRES 1501 is a symbolic resolution expressing the House of Representatives' support for National Adoption Day (November 19, 2022) and National Adoption Month (November 2022). It encourages the public to raise awareness about children in foster care awaiting permanent families and promotes adoption as a way to provide safety and stability. The resolution does not create new laws or policies but formally recognizes efforts to connect children in foster care with adoptive families, referencing that over 75,000 children joined permanent families on National Adoption Day since 2000. It directly affects public awareness and national recognition of adoption needs, not specific individuals or programs.
This concurrent resolution affirms the commitments in the Geneva Consensus Declaration on Promoting Women's Health and Strengthening the Family and applauds the signatory countries for their dedication to advancing women's health, protecting life at every stage while affirming that there is no international right to abortion, and upholding the importance of the family as foundational to society. The resolution calls on President Biden to once again add the United States as a signatory to the Geneva Consensus Declaration.
Maddy summaryHR 9314, the "No Federal Funding for Teacher’s Unions Act," prohibits federal funds from being provided to labor organizations whose members are education professionals, such as teachers in elementary, secondary, and higher education institutions. The bill directly affects teacher unions that receive federal funding, banning such support under the defined terms. Key provisions include a clear funding ban on these unions, with "education professionals" and "labor organizations" defined using existing laws from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the National Labor Relations Act. This policy change would prevent federal money from flowing to teacher unions for their operations or activities, without altering union membership rights or labor relations.
