Maddy summaryHCONRES 21 is a non-binding congressional resolution directing the President to withdraw all U.S. Armed Forces from Syria within 180 days of the resolution's adoption. It applies directly to U.S. military personnel stationed in Syria and relies on Section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, which requires the President to withdraw forces if Congress passes such a resolution. The bill’s key mechanism sets a clear 180-day deadline for removal, without creating new legal obligations. This is a procedural step to express congressional intent on military deployment, not a law altering troop presence. (Adopted March 1, 2023)

Think Tank Transparency Act This bill requires certain nonprofit organizations to file a disclosure report with the Department of Justice (DOJ) after (1) receiving a gift, donation, or contribution of $10,000 or more in a calendar year from foreign governments, entities, or individuals; or (2) entering into or modifying a contract or agreement with such foreign sources. Generally, these requirements shall apply to certain nonprofit organizations that (1) seek to influence U.S. public policy or public opinion; (2) engage in or publish substantial policy-related research or scholarship; or (3) regularly promote events featuring reporters, journalists, or government officials. Furthermore, if such a nonprofit organization presents research (e.g., briefings or testimony) that was funded by a foreign source to Members of Congress, congressional employees, or executive branch officials, that foreign source must be prominently identified on any presented written materials. The bill permits the DOJ to bring a civil action against an organization to compel compliance.

Maddy summaryHR 1275 prohibits federal funding from being used to implement Executive Order 14091, which directed federal agencies to advance racial equity and support underserved communities. The bill directly affects federal agencies that would have allocated taxpayer funds toward programs or initiatives under the executive order. No Retaining Every Gun In a System That Restricts Your Rights Act This bill modifies the retention requirements for firearm transaction records of federal firearms licensees (FFLs) that go out of business. Current law generally requires FFLs that go out of business to deliver their firearm transaction records to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). This bill removes the requirement for FFLs that go out of business to deliver their firearm transaction records to the ATF. Further, the bill requires the ATF to destroy all out-of-business records it has collected from FFLs.
Maddy summaryHR 1200, the National Right-to-Work Act, prohibits requiring workers to join a union or pay dues as a condition of employment in both private-sector workplaces (covered by the National Labor Relations Act) and railroad industries (covered by the Railway Labor Act). The bill amends key sections of these laws to eliminate provisions that allowed union security agreements, meaning workers in unionized settings would no longer be forced to pay dues to retain their jobs. This directly affects employees in unionized workplaces across the U.S., particularly those in industries with existing union contracts that included mandatory dues. The law changes the legal framework to ensure union membership and dues payment remain voluntary for all workers.
