Supporting the goals and ideals of "Financial Literacy Month".

Maddy summaryHRES 292 is a non-binding House resolution supporting "Financial Literacy Month" to raise awareness about personal finance education. It references statistics showing widespread financial literacy gaps, including 14.2% of U.S. households being unbanked or underbanked, only 42% of adults budgeting, and just 28 states requiring high school economics courses. The resolution calls on federal, state, local, school, nonprofit, and business entities to observe Financial Literacy Month with programs and activities. It does not create new laws or policies but aims to highlight the importance of financial education for managing money, credit, and debt.

POWER Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill creates a $500 non-refundable tax credit for homeowners who purchase emergency generators for their primary residence. It applies only to individuals whose homes were in areas affected by two or more federally declared major disasters (excluding public health emergencies) within the past five years, and who previously received individual disaster assistance. The credit phases out for higher-income households ($300,000 joint filer limit, $150,000 for others) and expires two years after the bill becomes law. The credit covers generator costs up to $500 per household, aiming to help disaster-prone communities prepare for power outages.

SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act

Maddy summaryThis bill raises the asset limits for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients to allow more savings without losing benefits. It increases the individual resource limit from $2,250 to $20,000 (in 2025) and the couple limit from $1,500 to $10,000, with automatic annual inflation adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index. These changes directly affect low-income seniors and people with disabilities who rely on SSI. The bill eliminates the current "savings penalty" that previously forced recipients to spend down savings to qualify. The new limits will adjust each year to maintain their real value against inflation.

Maximum Pressure Act

Maddy summaryThis bill codifies a "maximum pressure" policy toward Iran, requiring the U.S. to maintain all sanctions until Iran meets specific conditions related to its nuclear program, missile development, support for terrorism, and human rights violations. It expands sanctions on Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and entities supporting Iran's ballistic missile program, while prohibiting waivers of sanctions on these entities. The bill mandates regular reports to Congress on Iran's nuclear activities, support for terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, and human rights abuses within Iran. It also directs the use of frozen Iranian assets to support victims of state-sponsored terrorism and prevents the release of funds that could benefit Iran's terrorist proxies. The bill aims to maintain economic and diplomatic pressure on Iran until it changes its behavior across multiple fronts.

CFPB–IG Reform Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 2513 establishes a dedicated Inspector General (IG) position for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), replacing the current shared IG arrangement with the Federal Reserve. The bill requires the CFPB to allocate 2% of its annual funding to the IG's office and mandates semiannual hearings before specific congressional committees to review the IG's reports. It also sets a 60-day deadline for the President to appoint the first CFPB IG after the bill's enactment. These changes directly affect the CFPB's internal oversight structure and its reporting obligations to Congress.

SAFE Act of 2025

Save America's Forgotten Equines Act of 2025 or the SAFE Act of 2025 This bill permanently prohibits the slaughter of equines (e.g., horses and mules) for human consumption. (Current law prohibits the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption. This bill extends the prohibition to equines.) Specifically, this bill prohibits a person from knowingly (1) slaughtering an equine for human consumption; or (2) shipping, transporting, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donating an equine to be slaughtered for human consumption or equine parts for human consumption. The bill subjects a violator to a fine. The bill applies to conduct in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce or within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States. However, it does not apply to an activity carried out by an Indian for a religious ceremony. As background, in recent years, the appropriations acts have prohibited the Department of Agriculture (USDA) from using federal funds to inspect horses before they are slaughtered for human consumption. Therefore, there are currently no USDA-inspected horse slaughter facilities in the United States.

CAPE Canaveral Act

Maddy summaryThe CAPE Canaveral Act (HR 2422) would require the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to relocate its headquarters to Brevard County, Florida, within one year of the bill becoming law. This bill directly affects NASA by mandating a physical move of its central administrative operations from its current location. The key provision sets a strict one-year deadline for the transfer, without altering NASA's missions or programs. The bill focuses solely on changing the headquarters location, not on policy or funding changes.

Portable Ultrasound Reimbursement Equity Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 2477, the Portable Ultrasound Reimbursement Equity Act of 2025, would amend Medicare rules to require equal reimbursement for portable ultrasound transportation and setup services as is currently provided for portable X-ray services. This change directly affects Medicare beneficiaries needing portable ultrasound exams and healthcare providers (like mobile clinics) who offer these services. The bill mandates that Medicare pay separately for portable ultrasound transportation and setup in the same way and to the same extent as portable X-ray services, using similar supplier requirements as existing regulations. The policy change would take effect for services provided on or after January 1, 2027.
