Maddy summaryHR 6754 would exempt all House Members and Senators (including leadership) from standard airport security screenings when traveling between their home airport and other destinations. The bill modifies a 2024 appropriations law to require the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to provide this exemption for congressional travel. It directly affects the security screening process for all members of Congress during specific travel routes. This is a procedural change to security protocols, not a substantive policy shift, and applies only to travel between a member's home airport and other locations.

Essential Caregivers Act of 2025 This bill prohibits certain health care facilities from limiting the access of essential caregivers to residents of those facilities, including during designated emergency periods. Specifically, the bill generally prohibits Medicare skilled nursing facilities, Medicaid nursing facilities, Medicaid intermediate care facilities, and associated inpatient rehabilitation facilities from restricting the access of essential caregivers to residents of the facilities, including during emergency periods in which visitation rights are otherwise restricted. During emergency periods, facilities may restrict access for an initial period of up to seven days and for one additional maximum seven-day period (if the additional period is approved by the state health department). Facilities may restrict access for a total of 7 days (or 14 days with the approval of the state health department) during an emergency period. Essential caregivers must agree to comply with any safety protocols set by the facility, which may be no more stringent for caregivers compared to those for staff. Caregivers who fail to comply with these requirements may be denied access, subject to an appeals process.
Maddy summaryThe SHIELD Act of 2025 withholds federal funding from states or local governments that arrest, detain, or prosecute federal officers for lawful immigration enforcement actions. It directly affects jurisdictions (like cities or counties) that interfere with federal immigration enforcement, such as by blocking ICE operations. The law requires the Attorney General and DHS to determine violations, then blocks all federal grants and contracts for the affected jurisdiction during the fiscal year. Funding withheld is reallocated to compliant jurisdictions, and restoration requires written assurances that interference will stop.
Maddy summaryThis bill renames a specific plaza in Washington D.C. (the area between H and K Streets on 16th Street Northwest) from "Black Lives Matter Plaza" to "Charlie Kirk Freedom of Speech Plaza." It requires the District of Columbia to install two standard street signs with the new name at the plaza's intersections within 90 days of enactment. The bill only affects the plaza's official designation and signage, with no substantive policy changes or new regulations. It directly impacts how the location is referenced in official documents and public signage.
Maddy summaryHR 6508, titled the "NATO Act," directs the U.S. to withdraw from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) by requiring the President to give notice of denunciation within 30 days of enactment. The bill prohibits using federal funds for any U.S. contributions to NATO's budgets, including military and civil expenses. It asserts that U.S. membership in NATO is inconsistent with U.S. national security interests, citing NATO's eastward expansion, European allies' failure to meet defense spending targets, and the view that European military capacity alone suffices as a counterweight to Russia. The bill directly affects U.S. foreign policy, defense spending, and the operational structure of NATO.
Maddy summaryHR 6534 repeals Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act, which previously prohibited U.S. economic and military assistance to Azerbaijan. This change directly affects U.S. foreign aid programs by removing a longstanding restriction on providing aid to Azerbaijan. The bill cites congressional findings that Azerbaijan is a U.S. ally, has supported peace efforts in the South Caucasus, and reached a border agreement with Armenia. The repeal would allow the U.S. government to resume aid to Azerbaijan without legal barriers.
Maddy summaryThis bill designates the location for the National Medal of Honor Monument, which was previously authorized by Public Law 117-80. It specifies that the monument must be placed within the National Mall's "Reserve" area near the Lincoln Memorial, overriding a prior location requirement. The bill does not create new policies or funding but clarifies the physical site for the existing authorized monument honoring Medal of Honor recipients. It directly affects the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation, which will manage the monument's construction and placement.
Maddy summaryHRES 930 is a symbolic resolution designating December 8, 2025, as "Jimmy Lai Day" to honor Jimmy Lai's advocacy for free press, religious freedom, and democracy in Hong Kong. It calls on the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong authorities to release Jimmy Lai and other Hong Kong prodemocracy advocates detained under Hong Kong's National Security Law. The resolution does not create new laws or policies but expresses congressional support for Lai's work and condemns the imprisonment of those advocating for Hong Kong's freedoms. It directly affects U.S. diplomatic messaging toward China, not Hong Kong's legal system or residents.
Maddy summaryHRES 932 is a symbolic resolution passed by the House of Representatives that condemns six specific members of Congress (including Senators Kelly and Slotkin and Representatives Crow, Deluzio, Goodlander, and Houlahan) for allegedly making statements that encouraged military and intelligence personnel to disobey orders from the President. The resolution claims these lawmakers falsely suggested the administration issued "illegal orders" and undermined the military chain of command, violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). It does not create new laws or policies but formally denounces the lawmakers' statements as "dangerous and seditious rhetoric." As a procedural resolution, it has no binding effect on military conduct or policy.
Maddy summaryHRES 725 is a procedural resolution that would allow the U.S. House of Representatives to immediately consider H.R. 1908, the "Restore Trust in Congress Act." This bill would prohibit Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from owning or trading most stocks, bonds, commodities, or derivatives (referred to as "covered investments"). Key exceptions include U.S. Treasury securities, diversified mutual funds, small business interests, and primary residences. The bill requires immediate divestment of prohibited investments within 90-180 days, imposes penalties of 10% of the investment value plus profit disgorgement for violations, and includes specific rules for trusts and inherited assets.
