Rewarding Efforts to Decrease Unrecycled Contaminants in Ecosystems Act of 2021 or the REDUCE Act of 2021 This bill imposes an excise tax on any taxable virgin plastic resin. The bill establishes a Plastic Waste Reduction Fund to carry out reduction and recycling activities, plastic waste and marine debris reduction, detection, monitoring, and cleanup activities, and address environmental justice and pollution impacts from plastic products.
Cancer Patient Equity Act of 2021 This bill provides for coverage of certain cancer diagnostic and laboratory tests under Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Specifically, the bill provides for coverage of microarray analysis, DNA and RNA sequencing, whole-exome sequencing, and other next-generation sequencing for individuals diagnosed with cancer. Additionally, the Department of Health and Human Services must establish an education and awareness program for physicians and the public about genomic testing and the role of genetic counselors.
Military Suicide Prevention in the 21st Century Act This bill requires the Department of Defense to carry out a two-year pilot program to program suicide prevention resources onto smart devices issued to members of the Armed Forces and to provide training on these resources.
The bill extends through FY2025 the authority for appropriations for homeless veterans reintegration programs and increases the amount authorized to be appropriated annually for such programs from $50 million to $75 million.
This bill authorizes travel and transportation allowances for family members to attend funeral and memorial services of members of the uniformed services.
This resolution states that nationals of Afghanistan who are at heightened risk of persecution by Taliban forces due to their affiliation with the U.S. government or civil society organizations should be recognized and honored. It also states that the United States should commit to facilitating safe travel to the United States for nationals of Afghanistan (and their family members) who are eligible for priority designation as refugees.
This resolution expresses the sense of the House of Representatives that the Department of Defense (DOD) should take the most recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report into consideration when carrying out resiliency efforts and making energy and transportation decisions for military bases and installations. The resolution also expresses that DOD should consider adding the recommendations of the Sixth Assessment Report to the Unified Facilities Criteria where appropriate.
Diversity in Apprenticeships Act This bill provides that the Department of Defense must require each offeror for a contract for a military construction project to (1) certify it will establish a goal that not less than 20% of the total workforce for the contract are qualified apprentices, and (2) ensure each contractor and subcontractor that employs four or more workers in a particular classification on the contract must employ one or more qualified apprentices.
