No Tax Dollars for the United Nation’s Immigration Invasion Act

No Tax Dollars for the United Nation's Immigration Invasion Act This bill prohibits the federal government from making contributions to the United Nations (U.N.) International Organization for Migration, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, or the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. The bill also requires the Government Accountability Office to report to Congress on federal funds provided to these U.N. agencies, including the amounts provided during FY2021 and FY2022 and any restrictions attached to such funding.

Debt Cancellation Accountability Act of 2023

Maddy summaryHR 509, the Debt Cancellation Accountability Act of 2023, prohibits the federal government from canceling student loan debt for groups of borrowers (e.g., all teachers or all borrowers in a specific state) without explicit congressional approval. It directly affects borrowers with federal student loans under parts B, D, or E of the Higher Education Act by requiring the Education Secretary to submit detailed requests to Congress before any "class-based" cancellation exceeding $1 million total. The bill mandates that Congress must specifically appropriate funds for such programs, and the Secretary must justify the need, legal authority, and why group cancellation is used instead of individual reviews. Existing targeted programs (like those for specific professions) remain exempt if they assess eligibility on a case-by-case basis.

Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

Maddy summaryThis bill requires healthcare providers to give the same medical care to infants born alive during abortions as they would to any newborn, and to immediately admit such infants to a hospital. It mandates reporting of non-compliance to law enforcement and imposes penalties including up to 5 years in prison for violations. Women who undergo abortions can file civil lawsuits seeking money damages for injuries, three times the abortion cost, and punitive damages if care standards are not met. The bill also clarifies that abortion includes intentionally killing an unborn child or terminating pregnancy without specific exceptions (e.g., after viability to preserve life or removing a dead fetus).

Memorializing the unborn by lowering the United States flag to half-staff on the 22d day of January each year.

Maddy summaryHRES 52 is a non-binding House resolution proposing that the U.S. flag be lowered to half-staff on January 22 each year to memorialize individuals affected by abortion policies since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. It specifically references the anniversary of Roe v. Wade (January 22, 1973) and the 2022 overturning of that ruling. The resolution encourages the public to observe this gesture as a memorial and urges lawmakers to support legislation respecting "the sanctity of life." As a symbolic resolution, it does not create new law or directly affect any specific group.

Repeal the NFA Act

Maddy summaryHR 450, titled "Repeal the NFA Act," would eliminate the federal tax and registration requirements for certain firearms currently regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA). This repeal targets Chapter 53 of the Internal Revenue Code, which enforces registration and tax payments for items like machine guns, short-barreled rifles, and suppressors. The bill directly affects gun owners and dealers who must currently comply with these registration and tax processes. As a result, these firearms would no longer require federal registration or tax payments.

AMERICANS Act

Maddy summaryHR 453 (the AMERICANS Act) prevents the Department of Defense from imposing new COVID-19 vaccine mandates without new congressional approval. It requires the military to adjust discharge statuses to "honorable" for service members discharged solely over vaccine refusal, and allows them to be reinstated to their previous rank with back pay and benefits. The bill also mandates that unvaccinated service members receive equal professional development and promotion opportunities, and creates processes for exemptions based on natural immunity, health conditions, or religious beliefs. It applies to all service members affected by previous vaccine-related discharges or adverse actions, regardless of whether they sought accommodations.

Heartbeat Protection Act of 2023

Maddy summaryHR 175, the Heartbeat Protection Act of 2023, prohibits physicians from performing abortions without first checking for a detectable fetal heartbeat using standard medical practice and informing the patient of the results. It allows exceptions only for abortions necessary to save a mother’s life due to physical conditions (not psychological ones), or for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest against an adult or minor, which require specific documentation like counseling records or police reports. Physicians violating the law face up to five years in prison, while patients cannot be prosecuted. The bill defines "unborn child" as beginning at fertilization and mandates detailed medical documentation for all exceptions. It explicitly excludes psychological conditions from life-threatening exceptions and requires physicians to retain records per federal health privacy rules.

Expressing the sense of Congress condemning the recent attacks on pro-life facilities, groups, and churches.

Maddy summaryHCONRES 3 is a non-binding congressional resolution expressing support for pro-life facilities, groups, and churches targeted by vandalism and threats following the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision. It condemns specific incidents like graffiti, window-smashing, and arson at pregnancy centers and churches (e.g., in Frederick, MD, and Portland, OR), while recognizing the role of these organizations in supporting pregnant women. The resolution calls on the Biden Administration to use law enforcement to protect these facilities but does not create new laws or policies. As a symbolic measure, it has no legal effect on the incidents described.

Recognizing that article I, section 10 of the United States Constitution explicitly reserves to the States the sovereign power to repel an invasion and defend their citizenry from the overwhelming and "imminent danger" posed by paramilitary, narco-terrorist cartels, terrorists and criminal actors who have seized control of our southern border.

This resolution declares that every state within the United States has the sovereign right to exclude any person who does not have the right to be there. It also declares that the states along the southern border (1) are being invaded by terrorists, narco-terrorist cartels, and criminal actors; and (2) have the sovereign and unilateral authority to defend themselves against such an invasion.
