To amend title 18, United States Code, to establish nationwide concealed carry reciprocity for certain members of the Armed Forces, and for other purposes.

Maddy summaryThis bill expands the ability for active-duty military personnel to carry concealed firearms across state lines by adding them to the list of individuals covered under existing federal reciprocity rules. To qualify, a service member must be on active duty and have completed a military firearms qualification within the last 12 months, using their Department of Defense ID card and proof of training as identification. The legislation amends Title 18 of the U.S. Code to clarify that these armed forces members can carry concealed weapons in states that allow it for qualified law enforcement officers. This change directly affects active-duty military service members who wish to travel while carrying a firearm, aligning their rights with those of certain law enforcement officers.

ASSIMILATION Act

Maddy summaryThis bill, known as the ASSIMILATION Act, fundamentally restructures the U.S. immigration system by replacing family-based and lottery-based admissions with a merit-based approach that prioritizes economic self-sufficiency and national interest. It directly affects prospective immigrants, current visa holders, and employers by establishing new requirements for entry, employment, and naturalization. Key provisions eliminate the diversity visa lottery, restrict family-sponsored immigration to spouses and minor children, and mandate that all immigrants demonstrate the ability to support themselves without relying on government benefits. The legislation also introduces stricter enforcement measures, such as making visa overstays a criminal offense, expanding E-Verify to all employers, and requiring higher English proficiency and tax compliance for citizenship. Additionally, it tightens asylum rules by adding a transit bar for those passing through other countries and limits parole to specific humanitarian cases rather than broad programs.

STEADFAST Act

Maddy summaryHR 7418 (the STEADFAST Act) converts the federal presidential campaign funding program into a state grant program to improve election security. It provides funds to states for updating voting systems, enhancing cybersecurity, securing physical storage of equipment, and implementing paper ballots with verification features. States must certify they prohibit noncitizen voting, require specific photo ID at polls, and report how funds are spent. Funding comes from taxpayer-designated contributions to a new Election Security Fund, with 5% allowed for administrative costs.

Review Every Veterans Claim Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 2137, the Review Every Veterans Claim Act of 2025, prevents the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) from denying benefit claims solely because a veteran misses a required medical exam. It amends Section 5103A of Title 38, U.S. Code, to prohibit automatic denials for missed exams and requires the VA to consider other factors. This directly affects veterans filing claims for VA benefits who skip scheduled medical evaluations. The bill ensures veterans cannot be rejected for a claim based only on non-attendance, while allowing denials for other valid reasons.

TREY'S Law

Maddy summaryThis bill, known as TREY's Law, aims to make nondisclosure clauses in contracts void and unenforceable if they prevent the reporting of sexual abuse involving minors. It directly affects victims of such abuse, their families, and anyone with knowledge of the abuse by allowing them to disclose these incidents without fear of civil liability. The law applies retroactively to agreements made before or after its passage and overrides any state laws that allow the enforcement of these specific clauses. While it invalidates clauses that silence abuse details, it permits parties to keep confidential other settlement terms like payment amounts, provided this does not stop the disclosure of the abuse itself.

(This statement is the basis for reapportionment of U.S. Representatives.) The bill also requires any questionnaire used in the decennial census to include a checkbox or other similar option for respondents to indicate whether the respondent and each household member is (1) a U.S. citizen, (2) a U.S. national but not a citizen, (3) a non-U.S. national ( alien under federal law) lawfully residing in the United States, or (4) a non-U.S. national unlawfully residing in the United States. Providing for the expulsion of Representative Nancy Mace from the United States House of Representatives.

Maddy summaryHouse Resolution 1197 proposes to expel Representative Nancy Mace from the United States House of Representatives. The resolution cites numerous alleged instances of misconduct as justification for her removal, directly affecting Representative Mace and her ability to serve. These allegations include legal disputes, alleged attempts to blackmail her former fiancé, mistreatment of law enforcement, misuse of official funds and staff, staging incidents for political gain, and failure to comply with ethics and campaign finance laws. The bill asserts that such conduct reflects a pattern of ethical lapses and disorderly behavior that undermines the dignity of the House, calling for her expulsion under constitutional authority.
