Eliminates penalties assessed against employers or insurance carriers for failure to comply with certain notice requirements relating to payment and cessation of compensation in certain circumstances.
Relates to providing county correction officers with a special optional twenty year retirement plan.
Requires certain school districts to have a school diversity officer who shall prepare an annual report to be given to the school district's board of education; requires the trustees or board of education of every school district with twenty or more enrolled students to designate a committee on diversity; makes related provisions.
Establishes an eight member legislative commission on the future of the Long Island Power Authority to investigate and evaluate the establishment of a public power model for the operation of LIPA, whereby the authority would directly operate the utility as a true public power authority; makes related provisions.
Provides that a member who first joins a public retirement system of the state on or after April first, two thousand twelve shall pay such retirement system, for deposit in the fund used to accumulate employer contributions, a sum equal to the product of the number of years of military service being claimed and three percent of such member's compensation earned during the twelve months of credited service immediately preceding the date that the member made application for credit; reduces such amount from six percent to three percent.
Relates to certificates of honorable separation from or service in the armed forces of the United States; provides that such certificates shall be forwarded to the appropriate local veterans' service agency within 60 days of receipt.
Relates to establishing restrictions on the sale of over-the-counter diet pills and dietary supplements for weight loss or muscle building; prohibits the sale of over-the-counter diet pills or dietary supplements for weight loss or muscle building to people under 18 unless properly prescribed by a health care provider; exempts certain protein powders, protein drinks and foods.
Establishes March 13 as a day of commemoration to be known as "K9 Veterans Day".
Requires that restaurants only provide single-use plastic straws to customers when explicitly requested by the customer; prohibits single-use plastic stirrers.
