Authorizes the towns of Harmony and North Harmony in Chautauqua county to elect a single town justice to preside in the town courts of such towns

Maddy summaryThis bill allows the towns of Harmony and North Harmony in Chautauqua County to combine their judicial roles by electing one town justice to preside over courts in both locations. The legislation requires the towns to complete a study, hold a public hearing, and pass a joint resolution before implementing this change. Once adopted, the newly elected official will serve a one-year term starting after the next general election. This measure simplifies local court administration by reducing the number of separate town justice positions in these specific communities.

Maddy summaryThis bill regulates the use of live restraint cable devices for trapping wildlife by authorizing the Department of Environmental Conservation to create specific rules for their use. It prohibits certain types of traps, such as those with teeth or nooses, while allowing the department to permit live cable devices for species like coyotes during a designated season starting December 1st. The regulations mandate that these devices include safety features like swivels and break-away mechanisms, require users to check traps every 24 hours, and mandate completion of a training course before use. Authorizes certain exemptions from school district real property taxes for volunteer firefighters

Maddy summaryThis bill allows volunteer firefighters to receive a property tax exemption on their homes if they live in the same school district where they serve. To qualify, firefighters must have been certified members of their fire company for at least five years, and their home must be their primary residence used only for living. The exemption covers up to $12,000 of the property's value, calculated using the state's equalization rate, and requires each school district to hold a public hearing before adopting the rule. Additionally, firefighters with over 20 years of service can receive this exemption for life, provided their district approves it. Existing volunteer firefighters who already receive other benefits under current laws will not lose those benefits if they also apply for this new tax break.
