Maddy summaryS 1098 requires towns holding special elections to schedule their polls to open on the same day as a scheduled general election, as designated by the state board of elections. This applies to all special town elections, directly affecting local town governments and voters in those communities. The bill mandates that town boards set polling hours to align with general election days when possible; if no general election occurs that day, polls must remain open for at least six consecutive hours between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. It also updates notice requirements for special elections, including publication in local newspapers and posting notices 10 days in advance. The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment.
