Maddy summaryThis bill modifies New York's not-for-profit corporation laws to increase transparency and oversight for entities created or supported by government bodies. It requires corporations formed at the request of a municipality or state authority to disclose this relationship on their incorporation documents and mandates that the state budget office receive copies of these filings. The legislation also establishes new rules for "local development corporations," allowing them to lease or sell public property without standard appraisals or bidding processes if the agreement is approved by local officials. Additionally, the bill defines contracts between these development corporations and government entities as public authority agreements, subjecting them to specific legal requirements and limiting their terms to twenty-five years.
Maddy summaryThis bill, known as the Veteran Family Educational Attainment Act, allows New York State veterans who have unused tuition award benefits to transfer those funds to a spouse, child, or survivor. To qualify for the transfer, the veteran must have served at least ten years, unless they were discharged due to death, medical issues, hardship, or involuntary separation. The recipient must be a resident of the state and, if a child, must be under twenty-six years old. The legislation also defines specific terms for eligible family members and survivors, including conditions under which a spouse or child qualifies for the benefit.
Prohibits the higher education services corporation from seeking recovery of awards made in error during certain academic years due to administrative error.
Maddy summaryThis bill requires courts to immediately report extreme risk protection orders to a statewide computerized registry, law enforcement agencies, licensing officers, and other relevant state divisions. The law mandates that these reports, including temporary and final orders as well as any amendments or revocations, be submitted electronically within one business day of issuance. Courts must also provide specific demographic data alongside the orders to help track and enforce these restrictions. Additionally, the bill directs state officials to create a comprehensive plan for maintaining this registry, which will include past orders once the law takes effect.
