Maddy summaryS 4219 establishes the New York State Muslim American Advisory Council to advise the legislature on issues affecting Muslim Americans. The council, composed of 10 members (including community representatives and legislative appointees), will provide recommendations to improve Muslim American civic participation, social and economic integration, and access to state services. It must submit annual reports detailing findings and strategies for state programs impacting this community. The bill creates a formal mechanism for the state to engage with Muslim American leaders and address their concerns through structured policy advice.
Maddy summaryThis bill requires all public and private schools in the state to include instruction about the January 6, 2021 Capitol insurrection and its aftermath as part of mandated civic education courses for students over age eight. It amends education law to add this event to required curriculum topics alongside other historical subjects like slavery, the Holocaust, and genocide. Schools must teach the historical context, significance, and consequences of the insurrection, with oversight by the education commissioner. Non-compliance could result in withheld school funding, as the law mandates this instruction be integrated into existing citizenship and history lessons.

Maddy summaryThis bill repeals Chapter 834 of the 1940 laws, which previously established procedures for removing certain police officers. It directly removes this outdated legal framework from the statute book, meaning the specific process it described no longer applies. The repeal takes immediate effect, eliminating the 1940 law without creating new policies or affecting current police personnel. As a procedural repeal, it does not change current police hiring, removal, or civil service rules.
Maddy summaryThis bill repeals a requirement that applicants must pass an examination to become a licensed master social worker. It directly affects individuals seeking this specific license by removing the exam hurdle. The bill removes paragraph (d) of subdivision 1 of section 7704 in the education law, which previously mandated the exam. This is a procedural change to licensing rules with no new requirements added.
