Relates to absentee ballots for relating to absentee ballots for school district elections

Maddy summaryThis bill clarifies the specific reasons voters can use to request absentee ballots for school district elections in areas that do not require poll registration. It updates the law to allow individuals to vote by mail if they expect to be absent from their county, have a physical disability or illness, are caring for someone who is ill or disabled, are hospitalized, or are detained in jail or prison. The legislation also standardizes the information required on absentee ballot applications, such as personal details and a good faith statement explaining the voter's expected absence.

Establishes experiential learning opportunities in the state university of New York and the city university of New York

Maddy summaryThis bill directs the State University of New York and the City University of New York to create plans by June 2025 for offering approved experiential or applied learning activities to students starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. These plans must be developed in consultation with faculty, student groups, and other stakeholders, and they need to define oversight methods, host entity responsibilities, and data reporting requirements. Additionally, the bill requires each college to evaluate whether making these activities a degree requirement is feasible, considering factors like community support, workforce impact, and potential delays in graduation.

Maddy summaryThis bill prohibits residential landlords from charging tenants any fees for paying rent through automated clearing house or online payment systems. It also ensures that landlords cannot force tenants to use electronic payments exclusively and must offer at least one free payment method, such as cash or personal checks.
