Requires boards of elections to provide certain notices prior to a change of polling place

Maddy summaryThis bill requires election boards to inform state and county party leaders and local elected officials at least five days before changing a voter's polling place. The law mandates that these notifications be sent by mail, with an alternative method used if mailing is not possible. Additionally, election boards must notify the relevant state assembly and senate representatives within five days of receiving a request to move a polling location. These changes aim to ensure that political parties and community leaders are aware of polling place adjustments before they occur.

Changes the date of designation for election inspectors and poll clerks

Maddy summaryThis bill changes the schedule for appointing election inspectors and poll clerks in New York counties, moving the selection deadline from mid-July to January 1st each year. Under the new rules, county boards of elections must complete these appointments by the start of the year, and the terms for these officials will now end on December 31st instead of mid-July. Political parties retain the ability to submit lists of recommended candidates, but they must do so by November 15th rather than May 1st. The legislation also clarifies that these officials will serve until the end of the current year, allowing them to fill vacancies that occur after their initial appointment.

Requires chain restaurants to label menu items that have a high content of sodium

Maddy summaryThis bill requires chain restaurants with fifteen or more locations in New York to place a warning icon on menus next to standard menu items that contain high levels of sodium. The law mandates that these icons be accompanied by a factual statement explaining that the sodium content exceeds the daily recommended limit and links high intake to increased risks of high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. To ensure compliance, restaurant chains must report sodium levels for their menu items to the state department every ninety days, while the department will provide guidance on the icon design and issue a review report six years after the law takes effect.
