Directs the New York state bridge authority to provide a report outlining their efforts and progress on decreasing and deterring suicide attempts on authority bridges

Maddy summaryThis bill requires the New York State Bridge Authority to install specialized fencing on all bridges it operates. The fencing must prevent climbing by using features like welded wire mesh panels, tightly spaced wires, and spike collars. It applies to all new bridge construction contracts and mandates installation within three years of the law's effective date. The measure directly affects the Bridge Authority and its contractors, focusing solely on the physical safety requirement without broader policy changes.

Includes stormwater in the definition of sewage for purposes of certain water, sewer, and water and sewer authorities

Maddy summaryBill A 7467 expands the legal definitions of "sewage" and "sewerage system" for specific water, sewer, and water and sewer authorities. It explicitly includes "stormwater" within these definitions, meaning these authorities will legally manage stormwater as part of their waste and collection systems. The bill also defines "stormwater" as unabsorbed flow from rain or meltwater on the ground or other surfaces. This aims to clarify the responsibilities of these authorities for the collection, conveyance, treatment, and disposal of stormwater.

Relates to the definition of coal tar and its use in pavement products

Maddy summaryThis bill amends New York's environmental conservation law to define "coal tar" for pavement products. It specifies that coal tar is a thick liquid from coal distillation containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) above 1,000 milligrams per kilogram. The definition explicitly includes certain residues like ethylene or steam cracked residues. This change directly affects manufacturers and suppliers of pavement materials using coal tar, as it sets a clear regulatory threshold for PAH levels. The bill was advanced to third reading in April 2025 but was later substituted by S3179.

Removes designating letters on ballots

Maddy summaryThis bill modifies election procedures by removing the requirement to print designating letters next to row or column headers on ballots. It directly affects voters, election officials, and political parties who currently rely on these letters to identify candidates. The change eliminates a specific formatting rule that previously mandated the inclusion of these letters alongside party names in black ink. Consequently, future ballots will display party or independent body names without the accompanying alphabetical or numerical designators. This adjustment simplifies the visual layout of ballots while maintaining the core information needed to select candidates.

Memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 2026, as Workers' Awareness Month in the State of New York

Maddy summaryThis bill asks the Governor of New York to officially designate May 2026 as Workers' Awareness Month. The resolution honors all workers in the state, including those in both union and non-union roles across public and private sectors. It aims to highlight the importance of labor rights, such as the ability to organize and bargain collectively, while also acknowledging the historical significance of May Day. The measure is a symbolic proclamation intended to raise awareness about the contributions of workers rather than to change specific laws or policies.
