Maddy summaryThis bill designates a specific stretch of Interstate 278 in Brooklyn, running from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to 6th Avenue, as the "Fort Hamilton Veterans Memorial Highway." The legislation requires the Department of Transportation to install and maintain signs for this honorary title while explicitly stating that the official legal name of the highway will not change to prevent confusion. The act takes effect immediately and serves as a commemorative measure rather than altering the functional name or operation of the road.

Maddy summaryThis bill proposes changing the state constitution to allow the legislature to adjust the number of Supreme Court justices in each judicial district based on population. Under the new rules, the number of justices could be increased if a district's population grows, with a limit of one justice for every fifty thousand people, or decreased if the population shrinks, provided the total does not fall below the current authorized number. The amendment also clarifies that judges from specific county courts in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island would serve as Supreme Court justices within their respective districts. Because this change requires a constitutional amendment, the bill must be published for three months before the next general election and approved by voters.
Maddy summaryThis bill increases special accidental death benefits for members of state and local retirement systems who die in the line of duty. Effective July 1, 2024, the payment amounts will be adjusted upward based on the deceased member's salary, using a specific percentage schedule that varies depending on the year the member died. The extra payment goes to the surviving spouse, dependent children, or parents, depending on who is eligible to receive the funds. This change applies to both the general municipal law and the retirement and social security law governing these retirement systems.
