Relates to paid family leave after a stillbirth

Maddy summaryThis bill (A 1467) adds "to recover after a stillbirth" as a qualifying reason for paid family leave under New York's workers' compensation law. It directly affects employees who experience a stillbirth, allowing them to take paid leave for recovery. The key provision amends existing law to include stillbirth recovery alongside other covered reasons like bonding with a newborn or caring for a family member with a serious health condition. The change applies to all policies or contracts issued, renewed, or modified after the effective date. This is a specific policy update to expand access to paid leave for a defined health-related event.

Authorizes the department of health to designate a level one or level two trauma center in Far Rockaway, county of Queens

Maddy summaryThis bill authorizes New York's Department of Health to designate a level one or level two trauma center in Far Rockaway, Queens, if the facility meets health department standards. It specifically allows the center to operate without requiring a hospital component and exempts it from conflicting requirements of the American College of Surgeons. The designation would establish a new trauma care option in the Far Rockaway community. The bill takes immediate effect upon passage.

Relates to establishing certain cultural and religious observances as school holidays in certain districts

Maddy summaryThis bill allows school districts to observe specific cultural and religious holidays as official school days, based on local student demographics. It adds Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Diwali, Lunar New Year, Tihar, Bandi Chhor Divas, and Onam to the list of potential school holidays. School boards or trustees must determine if a district has a "sizable proportion" of students observing these days before implementing them as holidays. The policy applies only to districts meeting this threshold, not statewide. The bill takes effect on July 1st following enactment.
