Relates to exempting private and parochial schools and day care centers from immunization requirements

Maddy summaryThis bill would exempt private and parochial schools and day care centers from state immunization requirements for students. It proposes amending the public health law to clarify that these facilities are not subject to standard vaccination mandates. The change would directly affect private/parochial schools and day care centers by removing a requirement to verify student immunization records. The bill is currently under review by the Health committee.

Prohibits registered sex offenders from using or being within five hundred feet of any state or municipal-owned park

Maddy summaryBill A 160 prohibits registered sex offenders from entering, being within 500 feet of, or being located in any state park or municipal-owned park. This law directly affects individuals required to register under the state’s sex offender registry by restricting their access to public park spaces. The key provision creates a 500-foot buffer zone around all state and locally owned parks, preventing registered sex offenders from being present within that radius. The bill was referred to the Correction committee on January 8, 2025, and is pending further legislative action.

Dedicates a portion of the state highway system to LCpl. Joseph Bailey

Maddy summaryThis bill designates a specific bridge on State Route 39 in Gainesville, Wyoming County (bridge number 46021130) as "Bridge Dedicated to LCpl. Joseph Bailey" for ceremonial recognition. It requires installing commemorative signage but explicitly states the bridge's official name will remain unchanged and this dedication will not disrupt highway operations. The bill is purely symbolic, honoring LCpl. Joseph Bailey without altering transportation infrastructure or official designations.
