Maddy summaryThis bill modifies election laws to allow county party committees to officially designate candidates for primary elections in specific counties, provided the county's party rules permit it. It primarily affects candidates running for county-wide offices, judicial delegates, and district-level positions in areas outside cities with populations of one million or more. The legislation establishes a weighted voting system where committee members cast votes proportional to their district's past electoral strength, with specific timelines for holding votes and filing results. Additionally, it allows candidates who receive a significant portion of the weighted vote to formally demand their names appear on the primary ballot. The bill also clarifies procedures for multi-county districts and maintains the ability for party members to nominate candidates via petition as an alternative method.
