Memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim January 2025, as Stalking Awareness Month in the State of New York

Maddy summaryThis resolution requests Governor Kathy Hochul to officially designate January 2025 as "Stalking Awareness Month" in New York State. It does not create new laws or affect specific individuals but aims to increase public awareness about stalking - a crime impacting over 13 million U.S. residents annually, with 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men experiencing it in their lifetime. The resolution highlights stalking's psychological impacts and long-term effects on victims' daily lives, including workplace disruptions and mental health challenges. As a procedural memorial, it directs the Legislature to formally ask the Governor to issue the proclamation, with no binding policy changes. The resolution was adopted by the Assembly on January 21, 2025.

Requires certain state owned and operated parking facilities to install and maintain charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles

Maddy summaryThis bill requires New York state-owned parking facilities with at least 50 spaces to install electric vehicle charging stations in a percentage of spots ranging from 10% to 20%, depending on the facility's total size. The Office of General Services is tasked with installing and maintaining these stations, which must meet specific electrical capacity standards, and is authorized to hire licensed electricians if upgrades to the power system are needed. The law applies to public, employee, and pay-per-use parking areas and would have taken effect on April 1 of the following year. However, the bill was vetoed by the Governor in December 2024 and subsequently tabled, meaning it did not become law.
